Life is full of uncertainties. Many of them can unexpectedly destabilize us, causing stress, despair, anxiety, and even depression. Such circumstances could prevent a mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy life, where hope for change is not visible. If you feel identified with this, I want to tell you that you are not alone. Seeking help is the first step in finding a way out and seeing the light among adverse/unexpected circumstances. Therapy helps you explore the causes, thoughts, emotions, and patterns that block and prevent you from moving forward. Together we can find the way out.

I have experience in working with older kids (8+), teens, young adults and parents who are stuck in a cycle where they feel unable to change. Many of my clients are dealing with anxiety and depression, and many are questioning whether there is more underneath. I have helped many families navigate the life-changing process of discovering and dealing with new diagnoses of ADHD (in particular girls and women), high functioning autism spectrum, learning disabilities, gifted issues and self-harm. I also work with kids struggling with behavioral issues and provide parent classes titled "When Everything's a Battle" and other topics.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist based in Georgia and I also provide telehealth services in Colorado and Montana. Self-understanding is a crucial aspect of emotional health and a major goal of psychotherapy. Building insight into how we view and engage with ourselves and the world around us provides a road map to use when navigating all aspects of life. Through therapy, I aim to increase one’s sense of who they are, what they want, and what is getting in the way. With these efforts, people often find that their distress diminishes, their mood increases, and meaning and purpose in life become clearer.

I believe that recovery is a process which requires active, continuous involvement from the client, the therapist, and the entire treatment team. According to this belief, the four stages of recovery are hope, empowerment, self-responsibility, and establishing a meaningful role in life. The individual most responsible for a successful treatment outcome is you (the client). With your consistent effort and willingness to engage with your therapist the kind of change you are hoping for can and will occur.

Imagine therapy as renovating a house. You’ve got some rooms that could use a touch-up, maybe a few areas needing structural work, and the occasional leak to patch up. It can feel daunting, like taking on a renovation project without a blueprint. But rest assured, when you step into my office, it’s like hiring a seasoned contractor—I’m here to help you navigate the renovation process with expertise and a sprinkle of humor. The best part? I’m not here to swing the hammer for you. Think of me as your project consultant, offering guidance and support as you tackle each room of your life’s house.

Are you tired of feeling constantly worried or held back by fear or negativity? I specialize in working with clients who feel stuck in their thoughts and habits. It's truly inspirational observing clients move into the change process and start living the lives they've imagined. My first priority as a therapist is helping clients feel heard and understand. Having a safe, confidential space to discuss your thoughts and feelings is the first step to feeling better. My second priority is to utilize an evidence-based treatment, often Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, to help clients learn skills they can use outside of my office.

I believe in people's ability to heal and grow after difficult experiences. However, it can be hard to know where to start, who to trust, or what might be helpful. Maybe you experience depression or anxiety, suffer from the consequences of trauma and chronic pain, or would like to repair and strengthen your romantic relationship. Regardless of your life’s journey and obstacles, treatment can help! As a psychologist with a holistic and integrative approach, I utilize evidence-based treatments (the gold standard), while also incorporating other helpful tools depending on your unique concerns.

The most important part of therapy is that you connect/feel safe with your therapist, and finding that therapist can be difficult, especially right now. Call or send me an email to arrange a free consultation and lets see if we think we're a good fit. Trust yourself, ask questions, you've come this far, you will find someone that seems right for you. Life is hard at the moment and you're probably ready for something to change, but what? I advocate for fierce joy, tolerating uncertainty and loss, digging deep, genuine relationships, holding ourselves accountable, playing to strengths, & being compassionate about our challenges.

My goal as a counselor is to help you feel comfortable to face life's challenges, no matter the circumstances. Therapy can feel like a leap of faith, and I'm here to help create safety. Through this process, you can search for your truest self and honest desires without ever feeling like you're alone. For better or for worse, we live within our own world where we are the center and the focus. Therapy can be difficult. I also believe it can be connective, creative, insightful, and foster immense healing. And the hardest part can be reaching out.

We are all a product of our stories— the good, the bad, and everything between. Many times, we aren’t aware of how rooted we are in past beliefs and narratives and how deeply they’ve impacted our current choices and decisions. Therapy allows us to uncover the different sides of ourselves, to unlearn unhelpful beliefs and to emphasize positive ones. Together, we can work to create a collaborative environment that will help you gain a greater sense of self-awareness. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression and PTSD with a range of modalities including EMDR Therapy, IFS and Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
