I consider my greatest therapeutic focus to be trauma-recovery work. My areas of expertise include: trauma, abuse, sexual/physical abuse, divorce, conflictual relationships, traumatic life events, and post-partum mood disorders. I also support those with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, school or work struggles, parenting challenges, and difficult life events. I also have extensive background teaching gender identity classes to professionals and working with individuals struggling with their own gender/sexual identity. I also have a special interest in supervising new social workers and counselors, and am currently accepting new.

For the first 15 years of my career I worked as a family counselor in inpatient alcohol / drug treatment centers. In 1994 I went back to school for a graduate degree in social work. Since then I have been working with individuals, couples and families. I think it's very healthy to use counseling whenever it's needed throughout our lives. Much of the work I do is with couples and families who are struggling with communication - which is the bridge to close relationships. I also work with addiction recovery, anxiety, depression, workplace relationships. Feel free to call for help.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. I utilize an integrative client centered approach in my work with individuals and couples. I believe it is important to meet people where they are in their lives and work with them to develop the best tools to help with their current challenges.

I have over 25 years of experience helping children, youth, adults, and families to find improved health and well-being. It has been my experience that individuals do the best they can with the information they have; at times, however, people seek new information or a new point of view. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar, trauma, PTSD, loss/grief, and attachment issues. I often create a "toolkit" in partnership with each individual.

I enjoy working with adults who suffer from grief and loss, trauma, and sport-related performance issues. To help overcome these challenges, I take a collaborative approach that focuses on understanding the problem to determine how best to resolve it. I believe that humans have a large capacity to be autonomous and self-directed. Thus, as a psychologist I help my clients realize this potential, promoting adaptive ways of coping, and work myself out of job as a result. Theoretically, I work from interpersonal, psychodynamic, and existential perspectives, and believe that the foundation of effective counseling stems from the therapeutic relationship.

Do you feel stuck in your life? Are you looking to develop more awareness and insight into your underlying motives, defenses, and desires? Oftentimes we have learned to cope in ways that are no longer effective. I use a blend of therapeutic approaches to help you move from “Dis-ease” towards Ease, “Dis-connection” towards Connection, “Dis-comfort” toward Comfort. To move from trudging through life, or feeling stuck, towards thriving. I would love to help you navigate the challenges you are facing. The goal of therapy is to feel empowered to find healing and solutions to navigate life and live more in the present.

In therapy I hope to build a safe, trusting relationship that can help guide you to find your way through the difficulties and transitions that life has to offer. I believe we are all capable of becoming more self aware and, although healing can take time and work, that we are all able to heal from trauma and difficult experiences that shape us. The most content people are those who keep growing and learning!
