The purpose of Heart and Hand Center is to alleviate suffering that comes to people of all ages as a result of trauma, grief, loss, injury, accidents, divorce, family dysfunction, war, poverty, addictions, death, and disease. We use a healing approach combining compassion and care with expressive arts therapy, equine assisted psychotherapy, and spirituality to address root causes of emotional, behavioral, and psychological problems.

I work with children, adolescents and adults with a curiosity about how we can live more connected and meaningful lives. Often the ways we have learned to adapt to our world (or world view) is no longer effective or relevant. I seek to help create deeper awareness and insight into underlying motives, defenses, and desires. Together we explore patterns that contribute to struggles and dissonance in day to day life.

My name is Aimee Lang (previously Volkman), and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC). I believe each individual is unique, and views the world through an individualistic lens- given their experiences. I feel everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard. It takes a lot of courage to take a step towards enhancing ones well-being. Often, people feel lost and overwhelmed in their past and current struggles. I have a varied clinical background focused on working with children, adults and families who are struggling with life changes, anxiety, depression, PTSD, divorce, autism, attachment and existential crisis.

The foundation of my practice stems from the belief that every person has an inner capacity for well-being. I believe that when a safe environment is created, people can access their own inner resources and discover their own solutions. I strive to create a warm, supportive environment which allows children and adults to heal and begin the journey of reconnecting to themselves. I see my role in counseling being an empathic, deep listener as you explore and identify your unique values and goals.

Therapy is dynamic and I utilize a variety of approaches to help my clients find the right road map to recovery and better living. Currently Accepting New Clients. I believe behavior is communication. Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to understand you, a child, or a teen is communicating. By creating a judgement free space and empowering the client, I aim to engage adults, children, and teens in centering themselves, processing their experiences, and advocating for their needs. I also have experience working with people impacted by disabilities and systemic trauma.

My therapeutic approach emphasizes a focus on subconscious motives & creativity forms of expression. I am Depth Psychologist with a PhD in Community, Liberation, and Eco psychology and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I do not believe in fixing people, but instead in helping them explore the reasons symptoms and behaviors are coming forward, then working toward building stronger coping skills and resiliency. Evidence for the efficacy of depth psychological approaches to psychotherapy is growing as studies show that depth psychology has a longer-lasting and more profound impact than cognitive or behavioral psychologies alone.
