I am trained in EMDR and very comfortable in using this modality via telehealth.
I am first, a client-centered therapist. I believe therapy should be about the client and be met with unconditional positive regard. There is no place for judgment in therapy, and I am here to help you process and make your own decisions, not to tell you what to do.

I utilize person centered therapy, CBT, and EMDR therapy.
We are wired for love and belonging; however, often we are faced with experiences that leave us feeling lonely, stuck, and afraid to take the needed risks in order to experience connection. I believe one of the bravest things you can do is ask for help along the journey. Therapy is a place where you are able to be still, explore the places in your heart that are left unknown to you, and consider making wanted changes in your life. It can help you heal, develop healthy patterns, find hope, and experience a freedom that allows you to feel more connected to yourself and others.

I am a certified Trauma specialist, who offers multiple modalities relating to trauma, including EMDR, Court approved Anger Management, Cognitive Behavorial Therapy and couples counseling.
I thoroughly enjoy working with individuals that are interested in seeking help in change and understanding, especially if it relates to trauma. I have 12 years experience in law enforcement which has allotted me first hand experience in numerous traumatic incidents, and personal insight. With that being said, I find it incredibly rewarding and meaningful to offer education, coping skills, and EMDR treatment. I believe it is very common for anyone to become 'stuck' in life and need a little therapeutic push in the right direction.

(Psychiatry, Oncology, Supportive/Palliative Care, & Employee Assistance) I am a Certified Grief Counselor and EMDR trained.
I believe that strength is not defined by burying our feelings, keeping your chin up, or other cliche sayings that encourage silence. True strength is being vulnerable, talking about how you feel, and yes, asking for help. If you are ready to dive into whatever is hurting you, interfering in your relationships, and whatever is keeping you from the life that you want to live, THAT is strength, and where your true power lies.

My name is Michelle and I am the owner of Coffee Date Counseling Services, LLC. So why the name "Coffee Date Counseling Services"? No, I don’t do couples counseling or specialize in relationship advice. My vision for Coffee Date Counseling Services is tied directly to the experience that I hope to create for clients. Counseling should be a human experience, one in which you feel supported and connected as you wrestle with the vulnerability that typically leads someone to seek out support. The image of two people meeting and sharing experiences over coffee evokes in me the feelings I hope my clients experience after our sessions.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
