Life is about Relationships: Couples, Marriage, Families, Friends, Co-Workers. However, broken promises, lost love, abandonment, endless conflict, lack of trust, addictions, loss of intimacy, anger and avoidance all create fear, pain, rejection and loneliness. You feel disconnected and are in search of acceptance, belonging, comfort and safety. It is scary to take that first step to seek help. From the moment you enter my office, you will have no doubt that your decision to seek help was the right one. The goal will be to create an atmosphere that makes you feel safe and comfortable enough to face what is troubling you.

It is one of life’s greatest honors to come along-side people who are seeking personal growth, adjusting to life changes, or working through life’s difficulties. My desire is to join others and create a trusting, safe, and understanding space to help them achieve their vision. I integrate a person-centered perspective with Cognitive Behavioral and Choice Theory in our work. Our work together may take many steps. Just stepping out to someone may be a first step in addressing life’s concerns. Another step may be moving into willingness then to action. Other steps may include self discovery, or celebrating or adjusting to life changes.

Additionally, I have completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and plan to be a Certified Gottman Therapist by the end of this year.
As emotional beings, we all have the same desires and fears for our relationships. We want to feel valued and accepted and we run from rejection and shame. These basic human needs can cause us to stay too long in unhealthy relationships (personal and professional), and oftentimes, turn us against ourselves in the form of self destructive behaviors and damaged self worth. As a counselor, my goal is to help empower individuals to examine their thoughts and behaviors so they can understand what is theirs and let go of what is not. "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate" -Carl Jung

Hello! It's a joy for me to come alongside those courageous enough to ask for help. Sometimes it's embarrassing to ask questions about what’s normal and what isn't -i.e., "Am I a bad parent because my child doesn't listen?" or "Is something wrong with me because my relationships keep failing?" I work to provide an open environment for my clients to both process these questions and find solutions. My ideal client values both their personal and loved ones’ mental health. It's an honor to come alongside adults and children with painful histories and increase healthy options for your future.

Hey y'all! When we arrive at therapy, it is often because things in our lives or the lives of loved ones aren't going as we hoped, and it is a joy and privilege to come alongside those courageous enough to ask for help. If we have the opportunity to work together, my hope is that you experience the power of healing in a safe and supportive environment and leave our time together with a renewed sense of peace, joy, and hope. You are a key part of the therapy process, and I promise to work just as hard as I'll ask you to. If you're ready to commit to this process, I am confident we'll find what is effective for you and your family.

How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
