Seeking help is the first step toward finding your sense of balance and connection. Every individual has the ability within themselves to achieve the balance that they need for their lives. It is my goal as a counselor to assist you with the navigation of this journey.

Not accepting new clients
I have a passion for people. I believe everyone has innate worth and value, and my goal is to empower my clients towards that belief of themselves. My therapy style is client-centered, which means I cater to my client's particular needs. I utilize an integrated approach that synthesizes my Christian values with research based practices in order to give the very best care. My desire is that my clients see me as someone who is unafraid of the darkest parts of them, someone who meets them where they are with acceptance and support.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.“—Arthur Ashe This is my approach to helping clients. We all face difficulties in life and there is no universal “normal.” I have personally been through difficult life experiences, such as abuse, divorce, and single parenthood, but also have experienced healing. My approach is to help clients discover what they have within themselves and how they can find their own “normal.” Sometimes it just takes an objective ear, raw honesty, and different perspective to discover the power within us.

I am currently working with all ages of clients and enjoy every developmental stage of life, however I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults. I have a good deal of clinical experience in treating clients with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and anger issues. I've worked with many children whose parents are going through divorce or separation and the many issues which stem from such a family disruption. Another client population that I frequently see is gay and lesbian individuals of all ages.

Life is for living. Many times in life we let past experiences, people and situations keep us from moving forward. It's easy to get bogged down in every day life and forget to work on ourselves. Fears, depression and life circumstances can interfere with individual growth, accomplishing goals and thriving. We hope and wish that problems will resolve on their own. However, most road blocks start within - the messages we receive and what we tell ourselves. Only you can love yourself enough to try. It's not easy, at times, but it is so worth the effort.

What happened? You've been through something, something painful. Yesterday, last week, or years ago - it doesn't matter. You're having trouble now, and it's time to talk it through. You're down and not motivated. You're not sleeping well and wake up in a panic. You're thinking about the same things over and over without solving anything. You're doing the same things over and over again with the same unsatisfactory results. We've all been there - I have. I know how helpful therapy can be.

Immediate Availability! We can not plan for everything that happens to us. However, we can choose how we are going to respond. Sometimes, life throws you a curve ball that you didn’t see coming and it has left you feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you have been in survival mode and have just been putting one foot in front of the other just to make it through the day and you lift your head one day to realize you don’t know where you are or which way to go. Maybe life seems like it has become a never-ending cycle of anxiety and depression. Or, do you just feel like you need some extra support to get you to where you want to be? I can help.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of practice settings over the past 20 years. My primary area of interest and training is working with children under the age of 10 dealing with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, autism, developmental delay, divorce, grief, medical issues, behavioral problems, and more. I believe children have limitless potential for growth and they have an innate capacity for resiliency. I also believe that parents and primary caregivers play a critical role in a child's recovery and a joint approach to working with children is essential to healing.

Counseling is about establishing a safe and trusting relationship wherein the client feels comfortable speaking about and exploring the unknown or the scary, practicing communication skills, and realizing their own strengths and potential - assets which they can then utilize to overcome any of life’s challenges and stressors. Over the last few years, I’ve worked with individuals of all ages and families with vastly different backgrounds, needs, strengths, diagnoses, and goals to become their best selves. I believe anyone and everyone is capable of enhancing their wellness and living a life they find enjoyable and full of meaning.

Life is about Relationships: Couples, Marriage, Families, Friends, Co-Workers. However, broken promises, lost love, abandonment, endless conflict, lack of trust, addictions, loss of intimacy, anger and avoidance all create fear, pain, rejection and loneliness. You feel disconnected and are in search of acceptance, belonging, comfort and safety. It is scary to take that first step to seek help. From the moment you enter my office, you will have no doubt that your decision to seek help was the right one. The goal will be to create an atmosphere that makes you feel safe and comfortable enough to face what is troubling you.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
