Hi. I’m so glad you’re here. You’ve taken a crucial and courageous step towards healing. If you are new to therapy, I know it can feel awkward and maybe even intimidating. It’s okay. Together we will take it one step at a time. It will be challenging at times, but I will be here to support and guide you along the way. And, it will also be interesting and fun as you discover more about yourself and develop new skills.

You're late, again! Scrambling to try and get out the door you wonder why you just can't "be normal" like everyone else. You speed to work cursing at every red light and car that's in your path. "Why am I like this?!" Feelings of shame, anger, and frustration rush through your body. You long to feel different, to be able to do the seemingly simple tasks everyone can do without effort, without procrastinating. But you can't, or at least that is how it feels. Everyone tells you to makes lists, keep a schedule, set alarms...but you've tried all that and none of it works. You start to believe there just must be something wrong with you.

I once heard it said that "Mental health problems need to be viewed as proof of our humanity, not an exception to it." Such problems in today's world often present themselves as anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, isolation, stagnation, trauma, relationship strain, etc. and can leave people feeling like they are merely existing rather than living. Does this sound familiar to you? If it does, then a counselor like myself may be able to help you through it.

My commitment to social justice work is rooted in compassion, empathy, and raising awareness so that we can all celebrate our similarities and differences. My practice model is hope-filled and research-informed, focusing on attachment, strengths-based, and trauma-informed frameworks. Therapy is about building a safe space, radical acceptance, courageous self-assessment, and shared humanity. This process unearths strength, courage, and insight, highlighting that the client is truly the expert over their own life. A supportive, non-judgmental, and curious relationship is the key to good therapy.

You may be saying to yourself: "I feel stuck. I feel disengaged. The problems seem insurmountable. When I attempt conversation about difficult issues they invariably turn to gridlock. Hurtful words are used by both of us. Withdrawal, isolation and silence follow. It seems we have a crisis over something. Then we have a brief honeymoon followed by a period of tension leading to another explosion. Seems like it never ends. Seems my efforts to engage are met with distancing by my spouse. I feel more and more disconnected, more helpless and hopeless about this relationship."

I enjoy working with clients of all ages, from all cultural backgrounds and from all walks of life. I offer outreach therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. After graduate school, I moved to Massachusetts, where I worked in both the traditional office setting, and in outreach, where I counseled clients in their homes. My lifelong love and appreciation for the outdoors called me to make a bold move to Montana. This is where I was exposed to the many opportunities to use my love of the outdoors to enrich the therapeutic process.

Congratulations for reaching out! You are not alone. Your step of seeking therapy and recovery begins now. I see each person as a unique individual. A person with life experiences- needing to relate, confide in and be validated. I treat each person with authenticity and unconditional positive regard. I focus on what is in front of me and not "what could be." My approach is a holistic one; I look at the whole person, including any underlying medical concerns, in order to help you identify your basic core self. Remember, you are brave for making the first step - reach out!

In art therapy, we make things together to create a bridge to communication, sometimes staying in the metaphor, and other times using the art product as a jumping off point for verbal discussion. When using narrative therapy, we find new and creative ways to look at old, unproductive stories. We create goals together. I provide the solid, predictable framework and ongoing support, as well as parent coaching. We create opportunities for deep insight, meaningful growth and healthy risk-taking.

In 2008 I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Masters in Counseling. Since 2010, I have been a counselor in the Bozeman school district, and in 2014, I took a position working part-time at the nCenter in Belgrade. I am trained as a Safe-ti (School and Family Engagement - Trauma Informed) specialist, and I work with children and adolescents who have been traumatized. I love my work because I know the value to children, adolescents and parents in facing these difficulties before adulthood. I use this same skill set to work with adults who have experienced past or present trauma.
