I am privileged to work with two specific groups of people: Christian ministry professionals and pastors, and those who suffer from OCD or anxiety disorders. You may be embarrassed to seek help while quietly longing for a safe place to process your struggles or get help with managing your suffering. If you are ready to pursue greater health for yourself and for the sake of those around you, I encourage you to contact me. I enjoy helping clients to find freedom and healing, to understand themselves better, and to move in the direction of a fuller life.

In my 20 years of work experience I have helped people who struggle with Depression or Bi-Polar Disorder; Anxiety, OCD, and Panic Disorder; Relationship Issues; Grief/Loss due to Bereavement, Life Transitions, Separation/Divorce, or Disability; Parenting Problems; Children with Attention or Behavior Issues; Anger; Stress; and Forgiveness/Faith questions.
Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, worried, or depressed? Life can be very challenging at times! With the right help and guidance however, we can find our way back towards emotional well-being and resolve the issues that burden us. As valedictorian of both my undergraduate and graduate degree program, professional excellence and effective treatment is a priority for me in my work with children, adolescents, and adults.

I believe a core element of growth lies in the understanding that the only thing you have control over is your thinking and response to any given situation. I seek to provide an atmosphere of non-judgmental support so that you can educate and empower yourself to no longer believe your happiness and contentment lies in anything outside yourself. I invite you, from the heart, to start your journey and discover how to take charge of your wellbeing.

I am accepting new clients. I've provided and supervised Mental Health (MH) and Substance Use counseling services for over 25 years in a variety of settings with all age groups. My experience and training has convinced me of several things - relationships define our sense of self; we look to our relationships for comfort and safety; Mental Wellness encompasses a Mind, Body and Spirit approach. I believe successful counseling is a commitment to create a place that allows each person to communicate their needs at a more genuine level and practice more effective ways of relating to others and taking an active role in one's health.

Life is hard and unpredictable, and we all have struggles within ourselves, with relationships, and with directions in life. As a result, we may experience anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, or simply feeling lost. The recognition of our shared human condition is what motivated me to become a counselor. I bring a wealth of life and professional experiences to the counseling practice with a 20-year career in biotech and business. I believe my life experiences as a parent and professional afford me the broad perspectives to connect with clients and to facilitate personal growth.

Modern relationships are HARD. Maybe you have found it hard to find the right person or have started to question whether the person you are with now could possibly be the wrong person. It’s tough when you feel burned by or totally confused about your current marriage or dating situation. You’ve probably made choices or overlooked things that you now regret, yet, here you are. Or, maybe you have a relationship at work with a boss and coworkers who undervalue you or play favorites with others. Your work ethic and good ideas have long taken a backseat to putting out fires. Or, maybe you are even so far gone that you are more checked-

I have specialized in Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body-focused repetitive behaviors since 2015.
Hi! I'm Allie Wilson, MA, LPC, owner of Brave Steps Counseling, LLC. Anxiety manifests itself differently for each person, but often includes the words "what if?" and offers a way out through avoidance, worry, rituals and reassurance. These behaviors are often automatic and seem uncontrollable; however, they are not effective long-term and only serve to increase anxiety rather than provide true help. Some people feel bullied by their anxiety and despair of life ever changing, yet there is hope for a life that is not controlled by anxiety or obsessive thoughts.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
