Children, teens and young adults that have experienced trauma, anxiety and depression often have difficulty coping with everyday stressors. School, work and everyday life can be overwhelming whether you are in kindergarten, high school or beyond. By developing healthy interpersonal boundaries, self-esteem and appropriate coping skills they can experience the world around them with confidence and resilience. I will create a genuine therapeutic relationship that will allow me to meet them where they are and provide the additional support, they need to lead successful lives.

Welcome to my practice! I specialize in working with children, adolescents, families and adults. I work hard to create a safe space for you to explore your needs and goals. There are often times when we just can't find the "right" words to describe or process what we are going through. As a registered Play Therapist, EMDR trained provider, and ITCT and TFCBT certified counselor, I help you find a way to express yourself that doesn't rely on words alone.

Currently accepting new clients! After school and evening appointments available! Childhood and young adulthood is a time of great change and growth and often times this can be painful and confusing. There are times when trauma adds to the stress of growing through young adulthood. When these things happen, it can often be helpful to reach out for help.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri with 14 years experience working in the mental health field. I have been a Mental Health Therapist for the last 4 years and currently offer virtual sessions. I began my career assisting families in their homes. This exposure had a significant influence on how I address treatment. Through a Person-Centered Perspective, I see the treatment process as a partnership. I believe in order to bring about healing, there must be an atmosphere free from judgment, full of respect, encouragement and empathy. This is what I strive for. Are you troubled by negative or distressing thoughts & memories from the past or present? Have you experienced a trauma? Perhaps you find yourself "overreacting" to minor or non-incidents. Do others say you're "too sensitive"? Maybe you have lost someone or something and you're finding it difficult to move forward. You are in a battle to reclaim you're stability, freedom, joy, self-confidence, self-worth, self-control, or even a part of yourself. Somehow you have lost your way & you would give just about anything to get back to how life used to be. Or maybe you desire something even better than before. . . .

Do you have intense or overwhelming emotions, feeling stressed or just “stuck” in life? While we all try to do the best we can to problem solve and manage life stressors, sometimes what we’ve been doing is no longer working for us. I can help you untangle strong emotions and thoughts by balancing the “see-saw” of acceptance of what won't change in life while also empowering you to use new skills to change. In doing so, we identify unhelpful behaviors that are no longer serving a purpose and work toward more healthy behaviors that are relevant to your goals to figure out the problems in your life.

Do you find yourself repeating the same cycles and behaviors, feeling out of control or victim to your circumstances? Feeling seemingly unable to think, behave, or choose differently? Are you ready to commit and invest in yourself and regain control? These powerful cycles that consume us indicate something important - we as human beings are driven to repeat what we have not resolved. Pervasive and unaddressed emotions are often the culprit of these vicious cycles, demanding to be tended to and released so the system can function more in health.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
