Life is full of pivotal moments that seek to define our stories and our personhood. Unfortunately, it can often feel like our most painful encounters seek to have the greatest impact. This can leave us feeling confused, angry, and grieved. Whether you are dealing with struggles in the present or grappling with trials from your past, you are more than the pain you have endured and healing is possible. I often work with adults and teenagers as they process trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, relational issues, and more. If this story seems all too familiar, I understand, and I am glad you are here.

My approach is to help my patients both resolve the issues they bring to my office and help them become more able to prevent or minimize the recurrence of these issues. And, often what people can not see in themselves defeats their genuine attempts to change their lives. My strengths are helping people both see and deal with what really gets in the way of their achieving substantial change. The mind/emotions are often like icebergs- only a small amount is above water to be seen-yet much is unseen and can lead to great damage( a failure to change).

Living in a broken world naturally means we may often feel broken ourselves, detached from who we genuinely are, who we once were, and who we long to be. It is easy to lose connection with our true selves as we attempt to navigate our external relationships, past traumas, societal expectations, and the daily demands of this world. This disconnection can disrupt our sense of equilibrium and wholeness and can bring on feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and a general dissatisfaction with life.

Are you looking for care that goes beyond a surface level coping skill or quick fix, but rather care that will give rise to deep and lasting transformation? If so, I can help. Are you hoping not just to learn how to stop fighting and communicate better with your partner, but to also feel deeply seen, known, and connected in your relationship? If so, I can help. Are you looking for a therapist that sees you as more than just another client, but rather cares to get to know you for the unique and unrepeatable person you are? I can help with that too.

Many of the patients I have helped, voluntary and court ordered, have tried multiple ways to address their problems, including seeing different therapists and/or taking medications, but have not progressed much. Many treatment approaches are superficial, focusing on reducing the number or severity of symptoms or offering only coping skills. However, these approaches most often only provide temporary relief, but never address the underlying causes of those symptoms. A reduction in symptoms is almost never what struggling people are looking for; instead they want to know where and why problems started and how to fix them permanently.

As a transgender therapist, one of my passions is working with clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ population. I enjoy collaborating with individuals who are exploring their gender and/or sexual identities and hope to offer guidance and compassion as they let go of any residual societal expectations. I have undergone the entire process of hormones, top surgery, and bottom surgeries, and I am open with my clients about my experiences as we work to decrease their gender dysphoria and move toward the eventual goal of gender euphoria.

When people decide to come to therapy, they are struggling. They are stressed, suffering, and feeling stuck or lost. In most cases, they are feeling a loss of control over some important aspect of their lives. This loss of control results in symptoms such as depression, anxiety, stress, feelings of guilt or shame, family problems, relationship problems, or problems at work or school. It is my goal to help you regain control of your life!

Sometimes we are struggling and don't know why, we have a loss, struggle to keep our emotions in check or have difficulty managing a traumatic event, regardless of the reason, I believe that seeking therapy is your first step to recognizing your strengths, building your skills and beginning the creation of the life you want and deserve.

I provide therapeutic services to adults, adolescents, couples, and families. Clients that tend to best fit my approach are seeking purpose and meaning, navigating feelings of uncertainty, alienation, or perpetual conflict, and are interested in examining ways outward dynamics reflect their inner selves. In other words, my work specializes in relational growth and development – in our communities, families, partnerships, and within ourselves.

Trauma, depression, and anxiety can turn your world upside down. Recovery is about untangling your experiences, recognizing your needs and strengths, and deciding how to live a life that feels right for you.

I have over 20 years of experience working in a therapeutic setting. My approach places a central focus on development of a strong therapeutic relationship and creating a space where one can explore personal issues. Symptoms are often what bring people to seek therapy. I see a symptom as a means for understanding the underlying issues that cause them. I have experience working with adults and adolescents (ages 13 and older). In support of working with adolescents, I also work with parents in a parallel manner.

To the rest of the world, you're perfectly put together. But on the inside, you feel like a tangled mess. As women, we carry the weight of societal expectations, past traumas, and the pressures of daily life at the expense of our mind, body, and spirit. You've been playing the part of superwoman for so long now that the feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, and exhaustion have become your new normal. Imagine if you discovered your own little corner of the world where you could take off the cape for a while, untangle the mess, and reclaim your joy.

Hi, my name is River! I'm a therapist and I’m passionate about working with people who have been impacted by trauma and painful life experiences. I believe that our bodies and minds have innate wisdom and flexibility. When we are exposed to hardships we adapt to keep ourselves safe from danger. This may look like shutting down our emotions to cope, looking for warning signs everywhere we go, or being hesitant to trust those closest to us. These responses can become second nature, and we sometimes keep using them even after the danger is gone. In cases like these the behaviors that once protected us can start to cause pain instead.
