I work with individuals who seek depth in their lives and their therapy. I work with folks struggling with life transitions, trauma, depression, anxiety, and inhibition. I work with those who think and feel deeply: from creatives, writers, and academics; to other professionals in the mental health field; to entrepreneurs, clergy, and community organizers. A common thread is a recognition that greater self-awareness can imbue our lives with agency and vitality.

Life can be crazy, busy and complex at times. It’s layered with joy, sprinkled with heartache and everything in between. At 66 + years young, I am well-aware that life can be overwhelming at times. Support can make all the difference. As a seasoned therapist, I believe one of the greatest gifts any therapist can give is his/her presence and the ability to listen. I would like to be that person for you.

I believe that no matter what age you are, most emotional struggles stem from a feeling of disconnection - from self, family and friends, or the world in general. You may feel as if you aren't yourself lately, or as if relationships have become difficult to navigate. Possibly you're having a hard time staying present and engaging in the world around you. If you are seeking therapy for your child or your teen, it may seem as if their behaviors or reactions don't match up to the situation they are in. Feeling seen, heard, and understood in therapy can allow adults and children to build or repair connections to self and others.

We spend our whole lives learning to communicate. Some of us have been taught to withhold our emotions as children & we sometimes find our adult selves struggling to express the emotions of how we truly feel. I work with adults who seek to understand how the conscious & unconscious subtle nuances of what was modeled to us as children often shapes the way we interpret our relationships with others and ourselves. Do you find yourself trying to save or "fix" people & neglect your own needs? Do you worry about past failures & struggle to see the strengths of who you are because you're so focused on those mistakes?

Have you experienced trauma in your life and seem to struggle with the same situations over and over, not knowing how to stop the vicious cycle. Are your emotions problematic, do you repeat unhealthy behaviors, relationships, have an onslaught of negative thoughts and no matter how successful you have become, you feel like a fake, insecure and if people really knew? How many times have you promised that you will stop, alcohol, drugs and really mean it, want it, yet once again fall short. As a veteran, were you in combat, was your military experience depleting, anxiety provoking and your life never the same? What keeps you stuck?

I know from experience how society conditions women into carrying these burdens and makes us feel like it's our responsibility to have our shit together.
Do you feel like no matter what you do it’s never good enough? Even though you’re working hard, you’re pushing forward, you feel inadequate and unseen? Do you often feel overwhelmed and exhausted? Are you getting stuck in cycles of thought that bring you down and make you feel out of touch with yourself? It's so exhausting. What if you could just be your authentic self and experience joy more often? By taking a holistic and collaborative approach to therapy, I use modalities such as EMDR, mindfulness, and CBT to help clients reach their goals and break these cycles.

"It's okay not to be okay!" Sometimes all you need is to give yourself permission to not be okay. There are moments in our lives when facing issues alone is not enough and it becomes difficult to navigate life's circumstances. That's where I step in. If you are suffering from trauma, grief, life stressors, relationship conflict, depression, or anxiety, I work with you at your point of need.

You're ready for therapy. Maybe you feel helpless, unworthy, unfulfilled, and anxious. Connection and joy are brief and seem out of reach. You are exhausted from unmet needs, chronic caretaking, traumatic triggers, or feelings of shame. You want to be known by your partner, friends, and community. You want to tell a new story with your life, nurture a space of inner peace, or return to the love you once felt in your relationship. You yearn to connect more authentically with your body, your world, and the people in it.

My speciality and focus includes the whole body, and our ability to change. My current studies in this field, allow me to work with my clients through a more integrative approach. This approach uses science and psychotherapy to assist clients to find their own power to cope, change behaviors, and most importantly, heal.

Struggling with anxiety, irritability, depression, or navigating a life transition? Are your relationships feeling the impact? Living in a society that minimizes self-compassion, slowing down, and tuning into our bodies makes it hard to feel connected to ourselves and those around us. Add in traumatic life experiences and the world can easily become overwhelming leading our nervous systems to shift into states of survival. I work to create a non-judgmental space to explore these themes and strengthen the connection within yourself, your relationships, and the world around you.

Welcome! I’m Allison and I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, & co-occurring addictions in a warm, inclusive & safe environment. We all have experiences from our past that have had a fragmenting impact on our lives, but the past doesn't have to define who we are or dictate who we are becoming. I believe you have an innate capacity to heal and grow into your best, most authentic self using therapy as a tool. Working together, we can identify ways of decreasing your symptoms, increasing your coping skills, addressing root cause(s), & most importantly, shifting self-sabotaging and/or addictive behavioral patterns.

We have all experienced adversities at some point in our life; sometimes these adversities leave us defeated, wondering how we can gather our strengths to move pass these falls. The journey seems unpredictable at times and we forget that we have what it takes within us to recover from those adversities. As your counselor, my goal is to be alongside you in this journey of searching for the strength that is within you to not only overcome these adversities but also to help you understand how you’ve come to develop these patterns of behaviors that no longer serve you well.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
