I know what it’s like to feel helpless, alone, frustrated, confused, unseen, unheard, and unsupported. Also, I know that it’s possible to transform these experiences into something deeply meaningful. The path to this transformation involves time and intention, and the courage to look deeply at oneself. As we learn to understand and relinquish old patterns, new ways of being give forth new hope and possibility. And not just for ourselves, but for everyone around us. What a wondrous experience!

You've always done everything right, and yet your world's just been turned upside down. You've been completely walloped by a death, a health diagnosis, a crumbling marriage, or a shattered dream. Your life no longer looks like how you thought it would. Waves of hard feelings keep coming at you, and your best efforts to deal with them aren't helping nearly enough. But you're normally the one who has it all together, and so everyone thinks you're doing so much better than you really are. You tell yourself everyone's doing their best to support you, but – let’s face it – their best kinda sucks, and so you're left feeling all alone.

Emotions...UGH! What are they good for? Well...you might not want to hear this, but those emotions you are feeling do serve a purpose, and you might not understand how they are serving you...YET. That's where I come in. You may feel aimless in parenthood, career, or your relationships. You want to understand more about who you are and what makes you tick, AND want a safe and warm space to explore those thoughts. You might be a member of the LGBTQIA+, poly, and/or open community and worried about judgement as you navigate the unique experiences of your life. Or, as an adult you are still navigating complicated parental relationships.

I use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Brainspotting to help people open up, be present, and take meaningful action in their lives.
If you're ready for your mood and motivation to improve, your relationships to be better, your work to be more enjoyable, and your life to feel more meaningful, you found the right therapist. I work well with people who feel stuck or that things aren't as they could or should be. My clients want clarity about their experiences, their relationships, and the direction of their lives, and they know that how things are right now is just not sustainable. That's when it can be helpful to get an outside professional's take on things.

I am comfortable with CBT, ACT, Trauma-focused therapy, and several other methods of practice.
Every new day presents the opportunity to begin a new chapter. What is already written on our pages may shape us, but it does not define us. Every obstacle, experience, and transition we encounter brings opportunity for joy, growth, meaning, and connection. Therapy provides support to reflect on where you have been, where you are now, and where you want to be. New Chapter offers therapy services that fit your life and comfort level.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
