Children are one of life's greatest and most challenging gifts. We long to protect them and set them up for all the best things that life can offer. Unfortunately, life can take wild turns and our world can be painfully ugly. Even with our best efforts, children can end up feeling hurt, anxious, angry, sad, disconnected and confused. While we can't walk a child's path for them, we can provide them with empowering spaces to learn to confidently walk their own. Unlike adults, children do not have language to process all they feel and experience, but they have play.

Much like the seasons, transitions and change are a natural progression of life, potentially stirring up a great amount of distress in our lives, leaving us feeling alone, overwhelmed, and unsettled as our hopes, dreams and relationships can change. Maneuvering through these chapters can be a daunting process, as they are influenced, and so seen through the lens of our past experiences. I aim at being able to walk with you through this tumultuous time, and beyond this stage of your life, helping to unravel some of the painful patterns that negatively impact your relationships.

My favorite type of clients are ones that have been working hard, trying to be perfect, and are starting to realize they have been ignoring their own feelings. I work with high achieving adults who want to make changes. Maybe you deal with anxiety, depression, old hurts or current stressors and self-care is a complete unknown to you. I work with parents struggling with parenting anxiety, feeling bad or worried about the ways your children are affected by your home life. And I work with adolescents who are very capable, but are frozen by anxiety.

I have openings! My passion is working with children and families, helping them to relate better with one another or to cope with normal family issues in healthier ways. I believe all clients possess the potential to improve their lives. My goal is to offer support and strategies so that clients can decide for themselves what is appropriate for them. I hope to help adult clients gain perspective and understanding of their lives so they are empowered to make meaningful changes for themselves. I now also specialize in working with neurodivergent children and adults.

Not accepting new clients
Not accepting new individual therapy clients. I still do letters for gender affirming surgeries and have openings in my gender dysphoria groups. I strive to provide a compassionate, safe, caring, and nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself, express your emotions and thoughts, and feel heard. We live in uncertain, unpredictable times and the need for self-care and connection is greater than before. Know that whatever you are feeling is normal and you are not alone. Remember too that crises can also be opportunities for growth. I am here to help you navigate your life with compassion, healing, and understanding.

It's your time to get healthy. I have worked with clients in the Northland for the past 24 years. If you have considered therapy - trust your intuition! You don't have to struggle silently with the lows any longer. If you feel stuck - take the next step. Don't wait until relationships worsen, you lose hope, or shame takes over. The time is now. You deserve it. I offer therapy intensives as well (see my website for details).

I specialize in three types of clients - people who have been through so much transition that they often don't recognize themselves in the mirror, bilingual couples holding on by a thread, and people whose lives have plunged into chaos and need a guide to help them get their bearings.

"I just want my child to be their normal self again". That is what I often hear at the beginning of therapy. It is very difficult to know how to handle changes like anger, acting out, sadness, or keeping to themselves. These problems affect the child and everyone else involved in their daily lives. I will tailor therapy to meet you and/or your child's specific needs, and work towards getting "back to normal" (or improving on what normal has been).

Life can be overwhelming at times, whether you are a stressed out parent dealing with a challenging teen or simply trying to get back on your feet after a difficult situation, don't wait any longer before asking for help. As an experienced therapist, I have helped families, children, teens and adults resolve intense conflict, heal from personal issues, and work towards a peaceful life. Becoming a healthy person involves not only an active body and sound mind, but the belief that you are worthy of becoming the best you can be.

You may have found yourself here feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or tired of the same patterns repeating in your life. I work with individuals and couples who are in this very place and it can manifest like sexlessness in relationships, family conflict, unresolved grief, persistent anxiety, physical manifestations of stress, or symptoms related to unprocessed trauma. While these painful experiences may be a part of your story now, you can turn the page to write something new. Healing is possible.

What it’s like to come in for therapy? Therapy is about sharing vulnerability that you may not have experienced before, or at least not experienced positively before. We’re not friends, but we have a connection that we build that is professionally intimate and caring. Therapy is about analysis and making meaning of things that you have gone through and are presently dealing with. Sometimes that presents challenges to a person, things that are occurring with us are tough to look at and face- that’s why I’m here. I will help you look at things that are hard to take in and help you to either accept and appreciate or accept and change.

I love working with children and teens of all ages! My goal is to help children navigate the increasingly complex world and difficulties that come with it. This includes family, school and personal challenges. I enjoy partnering with parents to create family environment where children can thrive. Children are naturally resilient and love to learn. This belief feeds my practice of helping children grow and master life's challenges. As a Certified Chid Life Specialist I have a lot of experience working with children with medical needs.

There are many presenting issues that might bring you to counseling. Finding a therapist that you can connect with and build an alliance with is important to your success in therapy. I work very hard to create a relationship that will provide you the safety and warmth that you need to explore your experiences; I am very comfortable earning your trust. I use different treatment modalities, depending upon which is appropriate for you personally. Empathy is the primary tool used to give you the safety you need to explore your inner world while we begin to understand your experiences together.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
