Are you a new mom struggling to connect with your baby? Or perhaps an adult child struggling with the loss of a parent? Difficulty talking to your rebellious teen? Or maybe a decades long dispute with an estranged sibling? Each life stage has it's own challenges, and each family has it's own unique set of rules, boundaries, roles and communication styles.
Whether its play therapy for younger children, helping a high school/college age older adolescent work through a problem, strategies for depression and anxiety, or therapists to work with older adults on grief and loss - we have you covered. Our practice specializes in providing services that cover the life span - "Every Season of Life." It is our goal to "give therapy away" and teach people how to become their own therapist. We actively work to teach the skills needed to move past problems and live a successful life. We utilize a variety of techniques, including homework, art activities, role-plays - all tailored to you and your needs.

Reading the personal statements of counselors, as you are, already demonstrates strength, wisdom, and perseverance. It is not an easy thing to acknowledge that one would benefit from the insight, experience, or guidance of another. Everyone has a "too much," whether it makes sense to anyone else or not, and taking advantage of the experience and training of a counselor shows insight, courage, and a desire to improve your life and relationships. I work with adults, adolescents, children, and couples with a focus on anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship issues, and premarital counseling.

In over 20 years of practice, I have helped people heal past hurts, grieve losses, and develop new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Is life harder for you than it needs to be? Have you tried unsuccessfully to overcome past hurts and losses? Does something seem to be stopping you from accomplishing all you want in life? Often, no matter how hard you try, it is difficult to overcome challenges on your own. Despite your best efforts, past disruptions can impact your current relationships and interfere with your spirituality as well. If you're looking for someone to help you increase the peace and joy in your life and reclaim the freedom and spontaneity that is rightfully yours I invite you to call me.

The Infidelity and Women's Therapist. Therapy can be different from what you've experienced before. Faced with the fear of divorce? I have been there, conquered those fears and have come out soaring on the other side. Sometimes the best thing for a relationship is for it to end and sometimes it just needs some tweaking for it to be exactly the way you hoped it would be. It can be hard to know for sure if the relationship is too far gone, if it can be saved, or if you even want the relationship. We can work together to make sense of your experience.

I have experience providing counseling services to individuals struggling with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, marital conflict, divorce, emotion regulation, grief and loss, and low self-worth.
The decision to seek counseling is often difficult and comes after much thought and consideration. It has been my experience that the relationship formed between the client and counselor plays a vital role in the effectiveness and outcome of the therapeutic experience. Therefore my goal is to create a caring and trusting relationship with my client so they feel safe, comfortable and supported.

Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities (CBT, EMDR for trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and play therapy for children) to guide clients in accomplishing their goals.
Life comes with its fair share of stress and struggles. If you need support, help sorting through difficult feelings, or moving through a rough spot, my clients report feeling understood and hopeful, while seeing behaviors change and life situations improve. My style is collaborative, interactive, and engaging. I am very comfortable working with a variety of individuals, adults, seniors, teens and children. We can increase your insight, improve communication, uncover barriers, and problem solve to promote growth and change. "Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do." Brene Brown

You lay in bed at night wondering if your partner will ever see your pain. You feel alone, unimportant, unappreciated. You do not feel the love you once felt. Now it feels like you are just roommates. You try to talk with your partner about what is bothering you. But your partner either misses your pain or it turns into an argument. The two of you just end up further apart and more alone. You know you cannot do this anymore. The pain is too much.

We are not meant to live life alone, but rather deeply involved in relationships. Some of these relationships are highly successful, while others have come with great loss, significant struggle or just the every day difficulty of learning to live and enjoy life with another person. I believe in the value of working through personal problems in the context of building stronger relationships. I will help you work through this on a personal level or with whomever you are needing to have a restored relationship with.

As the Founder of Coyote Hill (coyotehill.org) I have worked with foster children and families in crisis for over 33 years. My counseling focus is on working with youth and adults address anger management, stress, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, grief, religious trauma, and other behavioral and relationship issues with specialized therapeutic approaches that can significantly impact individuals' lives, helping them to heal and grow. Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
