I served my country with honor in the United States Army for 5 years. Upon reaching a decision point that was best for me and my family, I separated after 5 years and began a 3 year career in the United States Army National Guard. Simultaneously, I took the first job that was offered to me and it just happened to be as a security officer in a major Community Hospital. Life can be overwhelming at times, whether you are a stressed out parent dealing with a challenging teen or simply trying to get back on your feet after a difficult situation, don't wait any longer before asking for help. As an experienced therapist, I have helped families, children, teens and adults resolve intense conflict, heal from personal issues, and work towards a peaceful life. Becoming a healthy person involves not only an active body and sound mind, but the belief that you are worthy of becoming the best you can be.

I hold two fundamental beliefs about all humans; firstly, I believe every individual is infinitely unique. Secondly, I think every person can grow and be better than they are today. I believe my job is to help you find the tools and resources you need to continue growing. My favorite aspect of therapy is that it can be tailored to individuals' authentic thoughts, feelings, experiences, needs, or desires.

I am trained in various modalities geared towards processing trauma and associated complex feelings such as Internal Family Systems, Somatic psychology, and Emotion Focused Therapy. Trying to find a therapist that fits you is overwhelming. To help you out, people describe me as casual, laid back, and friendly. I will not stare over a pair of glasses at you or scribble random notes down in a book while you speak. Just you and I, authentically right there in moment.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
