I believe 'mental health' is a term that applies to everyone. By seeking help to address your mental health needs, you are positioned for overall wellness and optimal living. Life circumstances sometimes causes us to get "stuck" in our thoughts, behaviors, attitudes or lifestyle habits. I see my clinical work as supporting clients in the process of getting "unstuck" as they move into their desired path. My practice focuses on working with career professionals, executives and women in the workplace. I help people navigate their purpose, identity and encourage empowerment through self-compassion and exploration of their goals.

Hi. Thank you for taking a look at my counseling profile. I love counseling and have been practicing for 30 years. One of the things I've noticed new clients are concerned about is being able to express themselves without being judged, as well as if the experience will be awkward. In all my years of practicing, I've heard almost everything imaginable and judgment is not a part of how I work. Everything in my office is 100% confidential and safe. I know how to ask the right question and keep the conversation flowing.

Looking for a therapist to help you get from where you are to the better life you seek can be overwhelming and confusing. I believe YOU are the expert on your life, and when you choose to work with me I respect and listen to you. I have had training in powerful, up-to-date approaches that bring about fast and effective relief for many problems, but nothing is more important than learning from you and working with you to make things better.

I believe in the wisdom of clients which allows them to be an active participant in the therapeutic process. I focus on three main points with my clients. 1. Pay attention to repetitive patterns you are caught up in or that others are caught up in with you, and change anything you can about those patterns. 2. Notice what you are doing when things are going better, and do more of that. 3. Acknowledge the facts and influence of the past, without letting them determine the present or future.

My philosophy of counseling is to let others know they are not alone. Clients will always have someone to talk to about anything troublesome. I believe all people need someone to be there for them, to comfort them and give them tools to self-sooth and learn to succeed to the best of their ability. Through unconditional positive regard, creating a safe space which is nonjudgmental and confidential, and by using active listening and other techniques clients can continue to learn to improve themselves and their environment.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
