Life can present many challenges. Often times, these challenges may result in feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed. There is no shame is seeking treatment. Making the initial decision to begin therapy can feel both daunting and relieving. While having connections with others is a central need for all human beings, this need is often most deeply felt during times of distress.

If you are looking for a therapist who can provide some insight regarding an issue, a relationship or other distress, you have come to the right place. I became a licensed professional counselor after working in the corporate and non-profit sectors because I have a passion in helping others to overcome life's challenges they are facing. I believe in using a collaborative approach with each client and meeting each individual where he or she is at. In our first session, we will explore what treatment approach is appropriate to best suit your needs.

Do you feel alone, like no one understands you and like you don’t even understand yourself? Do you feel exhausted because life is a heavy weight much of the time? Do you wonder if there is something inside you that is blocking you from living a better and more satisfying life? I believe that it is possible to dislodge those barriers. We start with recognizing patterns of overreaction and self-defeating behaviors. I help you develop the compassion for yourself that allows healing and I teach the skills that regulate your emotions and allow you to look at and respond to the world in a different way.

Feeling stuck, apathetic, overwhelmed, angry, worried, depressed, anxious, hopeless, or disconnected is exhausting and isolating. Many of our systems are designed to keep you this way, and you deserve more. I believe every person has an innate resilience, that helps us adapt to an ever changing world. I work to meet people where they are, connecting to the strength, courage, and insight already present and exploring areas for transformation and growth.

I sincerely trust in an individual’s ability to heal, even from profound pain and trauma. My practice focuses on intimacy and relationship well-being, as well as a wide range of psychological concerns, including: anxiety, recovery following illness or medical trauma (eg, life threatening diagnosis, or lack of regard by providers), deconstruction of old beliefs, pain with intercourse, sexual dysfunction, and grief. I also make it a sincere priority to provide a welcoming space for the LGBTQIA community. My website presents a great deal of information about sexual therapy, simply because it is often omitted from healing..

I hold two fundamental beliefs about all humans; firstly, I believe every individual is infinitely unique. Secondly, I think every person can grow and be better than they are today. I believe my job is to help you find the tools and resources you need to continue growing. My favorite aspect of therapy is that it can be tailored to individuals' authentic thoughts, feelings, experiences, needs, or desires.

As we set sail on the journey of life, you may encounter some confusing and traumatic moments. Throughout the journey, you may experience calm and smooth sailing or you may come across harsh and fierce storms. I am here to guide you through the "storm" with family systemic therapy, a symbolic-experiential approach, and EMDR therapy. Throughout our therapy journey, we will build a therapeutic relationship based on authenticity, trust, and humor, when appropriate. Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, boundaries, relationship dynamics, or grief, I am here to sail with you through your journey.

My overall therapy style I would say is casual. I like to work as a team when working with people. I know it is difficult to open up and tell someone all about yourself, especially the things that are troubling you. It takes pure courage and I deeply respect that. I have over 10 years of experience working with Veteran’s from 22 to 82 years of age. I have worked with complex cases such as PTSD, Depression, Grief, Brain Injury and Anxiety. I have also helped individuals with relationship issues, self-care, and self-esteem. I know that we can tackle your problems by setting and reaching your goals together.

I know each person, couple or family that comes to see me has multi-faceted issues in their lives they have been trying to deal with on their own. It can be hard to reach out for help when you feel defeated and have run out of solutions to your own problems. But that is exactly what therapy is for and the right time to start! You are not weak if you have been struggling to cope with trauma, your mental health or change. You are not a failure if your goals haven't been reached or your relationships with others are not what you thought they would be. You just don't know what you need yet, and I would love to help you figure that out.

I believe fear of judgment and shame often make us feel like we have to go through things alone. I provide a nonjudgmental and supportive environment for you to be able to process your struggles. We will work together to explore how we can address what is getting in the way of what you truly want for yourself. I have worked with clients with many different types of problems but my specialties are in working with eating disorders, trauma, and anxiety disorders. Regardless of the type of struggle, my hope is to help empower my clients to realize their true inner strength and resiliency.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
