Feeling overwhelmed is part of being human. We all struggle. Struggles are more common when you are coping with serious medical issues. You don't have to wait until an issue reaches a crisis point before you seek support in a safe, caring environment. My primary goal for my clients is to provide the caring support and compassionate challenge they need to cope with difficult situations. I believe that most people can benefit from having an objective perspective on issues facing them. You can learn more on my blog: http://www.drannbeckerschutte.com/blog

Why, despite good intentions, do you repeat something that isn't good for you? How can you learn compassion for yourself and others - instead of judging or shaming? How can you think 'outside the box' and recognize your fear of risk? Psychotherapy provides a place to explore what needs to happen so you can feel mastery in life. I'll work with you to gain awareness and see alternatives.

Finding a good therapist changed my life. Since becoming a psychotherapist in 2010, my goal has been to help my clients heal as they do the essential and difficult work of being human. I love psychotherapy and my clients can feel that. We meet inside my home office which has a private entrance. It's how psychotherapists treated patients back in the day and I have found the set up to be efficient at building rapport and safety. I really like myself and you can really like yourself too.

current availability: Interns with a sliding pay scale. Hey there! I believe in affordable and accessible mental health care, so I founded a nonprofit 5 years ago to support our community and bring a new approach to therapy. I believe in supporting clients from a. more straightforward, yet strength-based approach based on theories such as DBT, narrative, and EFT. Together, we'll work collaboratively to explore patterns that no longer serve you and work on steps towards healing. I have been a therapist for over 10 years and work with those struggling with eating disorders, self injury, suicide ideation and other concerns.

I strive to ensure you feel seen and cared for throughout our work together. Individual Therapy, especially for challenges that accompany addiction & recovery, or LGBTQIA+-related issues, is a process of understanding the internal and external energies, sometimes beyond our awareness, that guide us in both helpful and harmful ways. Using trauma informed, evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, DBT, and Family Systems Theory, we can uncover new stories that better define who we are, what we want, and allow us to heal.

You're smart, successful, and seem to have it all together.....yet you've lost track of who you are and what you're feeling. You wear this emotional mask on the outside, but your internal feelings and conflict tell a different story. Perhaps you're the one everyone counts on: family, friends, significant other, coworkers. Or maybe you're just feeling saturated by the stress and demands of life. Either way, you feel alone and overwhelmed. You're not sure who will understand you since you can't make sense of it yourself. Self-care is not your norm, but you've come to realize something's gotta give. It is time for a change.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
