I wrote a book that can help you with your therapist search - so you can feel empowered to choose the right therapist for you. Do you know what you're looking for? Do you know what's most important to you in choosing a therapist? I was a somatic trauma therapist for 13+ years. I sat with some of the most incredible people taking the courageous step to begin therapy. In the book, I distilled down all the lessons I learned in my 13 years as a therapist and offer them to you in bite sized bits.

I am a second-generation Christian family therapist who has been in practice since 1987, married for 34 years, 2 adult twin daughters, and now 2 sons (both daughters married). My overall philosophy is to assist clients in bringing balance to their lives by examining the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of their lives. It is important to see the individual as a part of a system, as what may work for one person may not work for another due to current family dynamics and unresolved issues from their past.

I believe that everyone, young and old, has a right to feel good about themselves. Sometimes, things happen in life that leave us feeling unprepared for the road ahead. We look in the mirror and are unhappy with what we see, past trauma can leave us vulnerable to the environment around us, or our bodies and our brains do not create a cohesive whole. That is when we need help in discovering who we are and how we want to live our lives.

I used to feel good just naturally on my own. Now I notice how I feel and it seems like I worry more, feel more sadness, more difficulty. I don't know what it is going on. I want to feel better, my relationships are less fulfilling; I feel like something needs to be changed. What is it? I am more sensitive too. I want to feel stronger, more confident and certain about myself. If any of these feelings are something you can relate to, you are looking in the right spot to do some self exploration and find some answers. Therapy is for everyone. Whether or not you have a 'diagnosis' it's normal to talk to a therapist about life areas.

Welcome! I’m Sarah, and I’m here to support you on your journey toward growth, healing, and connection. Relationships are hard, and finding the right therapist can be too—I'm here to help with both. I understand how important it is to work with a therapist who truly “gets” where you’re coming from. My practice is a space where all parts of you are welcomed and celebrated, whether you're navigating identity, relationships, trauma, or life transitions. My approach is holistic, trauma-focused, and flexible to what works best for you. And yes, I believe in finding moments for humor along the way—therapy doesn’t have to be all serious!

I believe everyone deserves to make sense, have a safe space to explore who they are and want to be, and figure out how to exist in the world they experience. I love to work with the LGBTQIA+, BIPOC/Multi-Racial, and athlete community. Traumas, generational trauma, relationships we have with everything around us, expectations/pressures, and oppressive systems can impact our sense of self, belonging, agency, and safety. Together we can work through your thoughts, feelings, emotions, judgements, sensations, beliefs, and memories to find your sense of self beneath the hard times you have endured.

I seek to honor the complexity of the unique human experience through a holistic approach to therapy. I work with clients hoping to feel more alive and whole. We all feel stuck at times, noticing ourselves repeating the same behaviors and finding ourselves in the same type of relationships, even if a part of us knows they no longer serve us.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
