I began working in mental health at a psychiatric hospital as a Mental Health Tech, where I worked for two years while earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I then work at this facility for five years as an Admission's Specialist, while I completed Master of Science degrees in Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis, and a Doctor of Psychology. As Admission's Specialist, I worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 8pm-8am. This exposed me to a variety of individuals with active mental issues. I consider those times as unique and important to my education helping others.

I'm Art. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and I spent 10 years in the military. Since 2007, it has been a privilege to help folks better understand themselves as humans, help them learn to better communicate themselves to others, and get rid of absurd shame and guilt that keeps them from finding joy in life. I work with anyone over the age of 18 in individual, family, or partnership therapy.

One intro to psychology class turned into two more, and then just 12 short years later (with a few twists and turns along the way) I completed my PhD in counseling psychology!

Are you a parent worrying about your son’s behavior? Maybe you're seeing tantrums, meltdowns, or noticing that they’re acting withdrawn. It feels like something else is going on that’s making your son unhappy and no one can figure it out. They might be dealing with a series of stresses — a divorce, school, relationship issues, or the loss of someone important. These events can hit children and teens hard, and on top of growing up, it can be even harder. It’s not always easy to express their feelings or find someone non-judgemental and trustworthy enough who will really listen and help them sort things out.

Hello! I specialize in supporting caregivers and their young child that displays difficult behaviors and emotions; particularly kiddos who experienced adoption or early adversity. I do things a bit differently from other child therapists and research and brain science significantly influence my perspective about where challenges come from and how solutions can be found. Therefore, I heavily involve caregivers as the key to bringing change for their child. With kiddos and caregivers, I use a play-based & sensory approach to increase felt safety, regulation, and relational capacity.

You lay awake staring at the ceiling; wondering how you can feel so alone next to the person you love. When things are great - they're great! Lately, however, the good days are few and far between. Communication is at a standstill, widening the space that is growing between you. Silence is the theme that looms over the house. You're simply coexisting, longing for intimacy, but unable to navigate the chasm that separates you. You ask, “Is this what our future looks like?” Throwing yourself into hobbies, sneaking glances at one another behind your phone screen from across the room. You both need more than this, but where do you begin?

Ever feel like no matter what you try, the same painful patterns keep showing up? The weight of unresolved emotions can leave you feeling distant from others and constantly on guard, as if a heavy fog surrounds you. It's frustrating to keep hoping for change when past efforts haven’t brought the relief you seek. Whether it's the strain of relationships that never quite click, the persistent undercurrent of anxiety that keeps you on edge, or the gnawing sense that something vital is missing, these struggles can feel like an endless loop. You're not alone in feeling stuck, exhausted, and unsure of where to turn next.

Life is difficult. You can be coasting along, only to wake up and find you just don’t have the same kind of joy and excitement that you used to. Activities and being with people you used to enjoy now just feel dull and lifeless or fill you with anxiety and, no matter what you do, nothing changes. You have difficulty falling asleep and, when you finally do, you wake up feeling exhausted and unrested. Your relationships may often be defined by constant fighting, insecurity, or lack of connection and excitement. Issues of sexual integrity fill you with shame, and, no matter what you do, you continue to struggle.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
