I help survivors overcome past traumas in order to help them begin to heal. I started my career working in the world of non-profit mental health. It was during this time that I realized that we in the mental health community were often treating the wrong thing, our clients tended to be struggling with Trauma more than anything, but we’d be focused on substance use, depression, and anxiety. This would lead to stagnation, due to the real issues not being addressed. Due to this I focus on the treatment of core issues. I focus on what is holding someone back, and not just the symptoms that are caused by these bigger problems.

My hope is to be a first step in overcoming feelings of isolation and loneliness. If your world has been turned upside-down, either from the loss of a loved one or life's hardships, let's connect. Learning how to trust and practice new life skills are foundational in moving forward in relationships.

Many people struggle each day with mental illness and or addiction.
I am honored that my clients share their deepest secrets with me every day. I am grateful for the trust they place in me and I value their need for confidentiality. I make an effort to listen to my clients and hear what they say to learn what they need to grow. Every client is a person who is much greater than their problem behavior or diagnosis. While I have extensive training in treating trauma and sexual behavior problems, I also have experience and training in treating other mental health problems such as: Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, ADHD, and chemical as well as process addictions.

As a minister, I can lead you through your goals in a manner consistent with Scripture.
I think this might be a problem. Have you said these words? it’s time to work on this. What began as ‘not a problem’ has grown in a way that has slowly begun to effect every part of your life. What if others found out? I can help you. I have been trained by Dr. Douglas Weiss (AASAT) and am currently under his supervision to work with sexual addictions of all types. Imagine the freedom in being able to finally work through these issues. I am a board-certified chaplain (BCC) and seminary-trained pastor (MDiv) working as a FT pastoral counselor (19 years).

I seriously enjoy working toward that day when you can say to me, "I really think I'm doing BETTER!" So, I look forward to walking alongside you toward significant growth in your life and relationships. Often that means working through the anxieties, thoughts and traumas that have been part of your current and past struggles. As well, it can mean focusing on a STRATEGY for "what's the next right step". I believe you can borrow from my HOPE, borrow from my INSIGHT and borrow from my EXPERIENCE as we create your own plan to make "better" days.

Every individual has experienced internal conflict regarding their mental health. Some of those we navigate just fine on our own and that is awesome! Other times we need some guidance, new ideas on how to effectively communicate, affirmations that we "do hard things", or to have our views on a situation challenged so we can come back with greater understanding and additional empathy.

My specialty is Grief, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, First Responders and Sports/School/Job Perfor mance.
I have a passion to assist you in overcoming adversity and facing your mental health concerns. Empathy, open-mindedness, and communication are my core values. My path to counseling began very young through my own personal experience with loss of life, which lead me to the path to helping others. I understand that missing our loved ones and being depressed is normal, and the key to grieving is to find a way to form a new relationship with the one we lost. In addition, through my collegiate student-athlete experience I understand the delicate balance of being a student-athlete, including the pressures that come along with it.

I believe that marriage is a lifelong commitment and I also believe that it is a difficult task to maintain a healthy relationship over the course of the marriage. I seek to work with both partners in the relationship to help each discover ways they can support one another. I believe when both partners feel safe and secure in the relationship that most problems that arise are able to be dealt with in a healthy manner.

We hu mans are complex, and as such must consider ourselves holistically when evaluating our perfor mance and considering course correction.
I'm Art. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and I spent 10 years in the military. Since 2007, it has been a privilege to help folks better understand themselves as hu mans, help them learn to better communicate themselves to others, and get rid of absurd shame and guilt that keeps them from finding joy in life. I work with anyone over the age of 18 in individual, family, or partnership therapy.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
