Welcome and thank you for considering me to support you along this journey. Throughout my experience, I learned that the best way to help clients who feel pressured during therapy is to get them excited for the process of communicating their feelings. I do this through incorporating several expressive therapies as alternative methods to traditional talk therapy.

I offer warmth and compassion to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with each client. I create a safe environment so that you are able to get down to your core emotions, then help you further explore those feelings. I believe that this is the key to any lasting change or improvement. Changing thoughts and behaviors is great, and definitely part of what needs to happen in therapy...but that is only temporary, first-order change. Real, LASTING change comes from addressing the underlying feelings and emotions behind those behaviors. This authentic growth is my goal for every client.

Your flourishing is my utmost concern as your therapist. I believe that we, as humans, thrive best when we are deeply known and accepted. Our greatest buffer against feelings of loneliness, depression, and chronic-anxiety are healthy relationships. I enjoy working with those interested in developing healthier relationships with themselves and their significant others (family, friends, partner, etc.).

Waitlist for new clients
Are you feeling ready to explore a new way of viewing the world, your relationships, and yourself? I work with people who struggle with distressing experiences, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. These experiences alter how we view ourselves and our surroundings. It can become so overwhelming for some to the point where you may observe avoiding experiences you previously enjoyed, or feel as if you are surviving day to day. My perspective is to help you reach your goals through a safe and open environment. I provide healthy coping skills to help with the day to day tasks, while also processing those distressing experiences.

When working with clients, I strive to make the therapeutic experience genuine, positive, respectful, and safe. I believe that through talking and building a good connection, we can develop your therapeutic goals, and create a successful and obtainable plan. My work is focused around the ages 20-65, when personal goal, and family dynamics are constantly shifting and new roles are developing. This can feel very overwhelming, scary, and sometimes hopeless. You do not have to do this alone! We will work together around the topics of parenting, anxiety/depression, trauma/abuse, school/college, grief/life changes, or areas of interest.

You are emotionally and mentally exhausted; and ready to throw in the towel. You and your spouse rarely talk to each other these days. And when you do talk, it is nothing more than shrugs, one-word answers, spiteful words, and bored eye rolls. Mortgages, finances, kids, college expenses, retirement - all these subjects cause friction and have created walls between the two of you that feel insurmountable. To the outside world you appear as a "put together" family; but inside the walls are crumbling and you feel a shadow of your former selves.

When I was serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine, the comfort of someone speaking my language was immeasurable. Speaking your language is important to me. Whether it’s through humor, warmth, empathy, or directness, I strive to make therapy relieving rather than another foreign experience. When therapists discuss what type of therapy they do, is it just another set of abbreviations with absolutely no meaning? Let me be your translator. I deeply value education, so if you are unfamiliar with any of the therapies I list below, I will explain extensively as to how they work within session. If you like learning, I'm your person.

Have you ever gone through a rough patch in life and felt like you didn't know how to get out of it? Some of us struggle for long periods of time and feel that it's our fault or that no one would be able to understand how we feel. Maybe you live with a vague feeling that something's not right. Personal experience with psychotherapy is what turned me into a believer in its power to transform life. I had always felt that I wanted to help people but after my life was changed by experiencing therapy, I really felt that I wanted to pass this gift on to others.

You don’t feel like yourself these days. You find yourself overanalyzing every situation until you’ve thought of every scenario. You may feel like nothing you do is ever good enough. Maybe you say yes to things you don’t actually want to do, because that people pleaser inside of you can’t say no. Maybe you prevent yourself from finding happiness because you feel you don’t deserve it. You’re tired of feeling numb or empty. You want to feel like yourself again, but the thought of starting this process seems daunting. Afterall, you’re “fine”….or at least that’s what you tell yourself. Maybe it seems like things will never change.

Oftentimes a therapist needs a therapist, and I specialize in working with therapists. I am intimately familiar with the burnout and fatigue that accompanies a therapists’ job. Every therapist I have worked with is a deeply compassionate, selfless, and idealistic person, who is dedicated to their clients. I work to help therapists care for themselves so that they can continue to feel healthy as they work with their clients. While we can often successfully support our clients, this does not always extend to feeling supported in our own lives.

I understand the process of change is difficult and habits are hard to break because change is uncomfortable. I am passionate about helping clients find the power of sitting with the uncertainty of change and surrender through talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), and existential exploration while building on the client’s own goals.

Hi, I'm Cheri & I work with women ages 18 & older.
Are you troubled by negative or distressing thoughts & memories from the past or present? Have you experienced a trauma? Perhaps you find yourself "overreacting" to minor or non-incidents. Do others say you're "too sensitive"? Maybe you have lost someone or something and you're finding it difficult to move forward. You are in a battle to reclaim you're stability, freedom, joy, self-confidence, self-worth, self-control, or even a part of yourself. Somehow you have lost your way & you would give just about anything to get back to how life used to be. Or maybe you desire something even better than before. . . .

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
