Life is hard! There are so many things to balance and never enough hours in the day. It is important to make time for yourself in the chaos. If we show up for ourselves we are better able to be there for the rest of our life. I love helping people live to their potential by exploring their stressors and mental health issues. I want you to feel empowered to be the best version of yourself at home, at work, and in your relationships. I want to help you develop strategies that help you meet your personal goals.

With an understanding of life stressors that are encountered through work, relationships, family, and life events, I combine extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy and other approaches to treat anxiety, depression, fears, and trauma. Working together as a team, each session builds on the last to seek real solutions for everyday and complex problems.

The idea of counseling can sound hard and overwhelming. Living in emotional frustration and pain is also hard. While challenging, you get to choose the path, and you don't have to do it alone. Feel seen and heard while you learn skills to work through feelings of not being enough. Lets developing strategies that diminish anxiety and depression symptoms related to trauma. Discomfort and pain does not have to control your life! Weekend openings and Couples counseling.

I believe what people need the most is to feel better about themselves. An increased sense of self worth is what makes us feel like we worth our own time and effort.

What I have found consistently in my work is that taking the first step towards a goal is typically the most challenging. When we think about our goals, or just simply our responsibilities and tasks for the day, we can quickly get caught up in a fantasy of what could be. Yet, when it comes to taking actual action, things seems daunting. Although we may know a change is needed, a life of inaction inevitably seems to prevail. As a licensed Clinical Psychologist, it is my goal to provide the highest quality psychological services to those that are tired of waiting and are willing and ready to take action.

As Bette Davis once said, "Old age is not for sissies!" We all know that growing older can bring about unexpected transitions and changes - in our bodies, in our relationships, and in our abilities. But aging can also foster new growth. I specialize in working with older adults as they navigate aging and its many surprises, which can include anxiety, depression, grief, and chronic illness. I also support those who have older adults in their circle of care, and who may be overwhelmed with caregiver stress and burnout.

I have learned that no one is immune to mental health stress, trauma, OR substance abuse. Most really can find recovery and wellness. In 2000, I began my career providing counseling services in a treatment center and have continued to specialize in coping methods vs. "using." Relationships are sacred. I work with all arrangements of families (CNM & polyamory). Expert family/couples counseling requires expert training. The Gottman Method is taught in three levels and I completed all three in 2017. My intensive couples approach is successful in improving communication and provides many tools and results in a reasonable time frame.

My ideal client is any person facing anxiety, depression, trauma, perinatal mood disorders, or a parent seeking play therapy for their child. Their needs would range from emotional support, coping skills, goals setting, emotional stability, symptom reduction, confidence in parenthood, trauma healing, and emotional health. They would want empathy and evidence-based modalities.

Tried other therapies and not feeling quite satisfied? I like to use different modalities to help a client feel “unstuck”. I am skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. With both therapies I like to take an active approach in setting goals and working towards these goals in an empathic and effective way. We will be a team working towards the same goals of helping you live your best life from here forward!

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
