Existential Therapists in Woodbury, MN
I utilize existential, attachment and humanistic theories while flexing to your holistic needs.
Walking through life in an increasingly challenging world can leave us feeling out of touch with ourselves, bending to who we think we “should” be, and unsure of who we want to be. I work with clients to help them embrace their natural curiosity, explore the patterns/behaviors that feel incongruous with their values, challenge the negative self-talk that holds them back, and help them to engage more fully in the joy that life can hold. I aim to help my clients develop a deeper and more compassionate relationship with themselves, to have a more fulfilling relationships and live in authentic alignment with their core personal values.

My approach to therapy is meeting you where you are at and letting you know you are not alone. I create a safe space to explore and process the issues you are facing and work to establish a stronger sense of well being. By challenging perspectives that do not serve you, we can empower change.

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor that has experience counseling adults in a variety of settings. I take a person-centered relational approach enhancing client strengths and empowering them through collaboration. I enjoy working with clients that have trauma and/or co-occurring disorders. I understand that some people may be aware that they need help processing their trauma and/or understanding why they are using substances. There are other people that are not as far along in the stages of changes. I believe therapy is a joint effort in processing through life's challenges.

When you are feeling overwhelmed but aren't sure how things can change, I can help. When you find that you keep making the same mistakes, doing things you promised yourself you would stop, I can help. Behavior changes are more than just applying logic to your situation. If it was only logic, you would have figured it out by now. I focus on how the brain processes experiences. I can provide the space to sort things out and finally change those old patterns.

It takes great courage to live an authentic life. Vitality is not something that just happens. It is something we each create on our own, through the deliberate expression of our deepest desires, beliefs, values, and personal expressions. Every time you choose your own direction, you become the owner of your existence. Only then are you truly alive. Unfortunately, sometimes, underlying issues with attachment, trauma, family of origin, and low self-esteem keep people from living fulfilling, authentic, and happy lives.

Existential Therapists
How does existential therapy work?
Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.
Is existential therapy evidence-based?
Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.
How long does existential therapy last?
The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is existential therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
