For over 15 years, I have had the privilege of counseling people of all ages and backgrounds that have struggled with anxiety, depression, marital conflict, family issues and academic concerns. Over the past five years, I have also started working with clients that have alcohol and drug related problems. Everyone is so unique. Therefore, my therapeutic approach is a nonjudgmental positive regard and it is tailored to fit the individual, couple and/or family. It has been very rewarding to watch so many clients make better choices and live a more full, enriched life. Every day is a new beginning!

I have worked with many people over the years; young children, adolescents, young adults, adults, all with various issues. Many of the clients I see are struggling with anxiety, worries, depression, chemical use, relationship concerns, or parenting dilemmas. Often times, people are most helped by having someone to listen, to help them explore the issue, and to find solutions that work for them. My 35 years of experience have given me insight into what strategies are most effective. I am licensed and skilled in both mental health and chemical use issues.

Starting therapy can be a daunting process, difficult in finding openings and in feeling connected with providers. I like to start the therapy process giving time for developing a relationship with my clients as the basis for gaining skills and healing from past experiences. I never push clients to feel uncomfortable or approach topics before they are ready. I try to meet people where they are at, sit with them in their current feelings and emotional states and offer skills to shift out of these states. My main goal is to provide a safe place of support for clients to feel heard and understood in their own life experiences.

I prefer to use my cognitive behavior therapy and attachment-based techniques in therapy most of the time.
Hello, I'm Rebecca Zabinski, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota. I am originally from New Mexico and met my husband in the United States Air Force. I am a woman veteran and have grown to love Minnesota and everything it has to offer. My approach to therapy is meeting people where they are at and coming up with some goals together so that there is a common focus between us. I have 3 boys and love animals. If I am not working, I am doing something outside with my kids, in the garden or with my dogs.

I use a trauma-informed, person-centered, strengths-based, harm-reduction, interpersonal, attachment-based approach to therapy.
Do you feel alone in your struggles, whether those are battling depression or anxiety, exploring gender and sexuality, undergoing a stressful life transition, navigating cultural generational divides in your family, avoiding burnout, or how to survive/thrive amidst racism, sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, and other isms? I work with clients to create a safer and more affirming space to explore their identities, navigate complex relationships, and cope and address the effects of systemic oppression, discrimination, and trauma on mental health.

I use an attachment-based framework and socio-cultural lens to conceptualize relationships and behavior whether working with individuals, couples, or families.
Research shows the relationship between the client(s) and therapist is the most important component in creating change and relief from distress. My hope is to create a safe space for you to explore yourself and your relationship(s) and for us to work together respectfully, openly, and honestly to achieve your goals. I am passionate about working with couples and have advanced training in Emotionally-Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). I enjoy working on marital/couple issues, LGBTQ+-related concerns, life transitions, existential issues, and gender identity. I also like working with mental health professionals and therapists!

In my work with couples, I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy (level three trained) and attachment-based interventions (EFT).
You are feeling alone and overwhelmed. You are anxious and the negative thoughts in your head are becoming louder and more difficult to control. Your sleep is poor and when you wake you feel tired already. You want help from a holistic perspective. I will teach you how to manage your mind and your nervous system so that you can function better during the day and sleep well at night. I will help you heal the root causes of your anxiety. Your relationships and your health will improve. A "fresh look" look at your difficulties might bring hope into a situation that you have considered to be hopeless.

I utilize an attachment-based lens with both individual and couple clients.
You are hyperaware & good at taking care of others, but you feel alone & never good enough. It's hard for you to figure out what your own feelings and needs are & asking for help from others or setting boundaries feels impossible! Young adulthood is full of life transitions, uncertainty, new experiences, big decisions, and figuring out who we are. It's overwhelming! I have a niche for working with individuals in this stage of life, especially those also dealing with things like anxiety, depression, or complex family systems on top of it all. I work with couples too, understanding relationships impact mental health and vice versa.

I work from a trauma-informed, harm reduction, and attachment-based perspective, and leverage my liberatory beliefs to dismantle the stigma of mental illness.
I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients (ages 16+), especially those with complex experiences of trauma, dissociation, and plurality. Together with my clients, we explore identity, relationships, and how to heal within a societal structure that oppresses us. Joining others on the road through trauma into healing has become my life’s work and passion.

I operate from an attachment-based, trauma informed lens and often incorporate play and creativity within the therapy space.
I believe that every person, no matter their age, deserves to have a space where they are unconditionally accepted. I work with children (ages 2 and up), teens, young adults and families to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for my clients to come as they are and untangle life’s complexities. I hold extensive experience working with Autism, ADHD, adoption and foster care, trauma and attachment challenges. I work to provide a safe, culturally responsive space for individuals and families, am social and racial justice oriented and LGBTQIA+ affirming. Additionally, I hold space for individuals of all abilities and identities.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
