I have an interest and experience in working with adults who want to understand why they act as they do and how they can change their thinking, behaviors, and emotions so it is more adaptive for them. Too many times we view ourselves as negative or unappealing but those thoughts, behaviors, and emotions started for an important reason - to protect us. But as we have grown those things are no longer advantageous for us and we must learn to do better for ourselves. It is not an easy journey but one that is very worthwhile.

I utilize both a psychodynamic and Internal Family Systems approach to help shed light on why we stay stuck in these unhealthy patterns.
It can feel overwhelming trying to navigate our day to day lives while also dealing with stress and trauma. Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to work through whatever difficulties and challenges we find present in our lives. As we begin to release the weight and pain we have been carrying with us for so long, we open up to new ideas and possibilities. Ultimately we can move towards a life with more resilience and hope.

I have advanced post-graduate training in psychodynamic therapy that allows for deeper and more meaningful work and more lasting change.
I believe that people need a therapist who has the ability to understand their experience. Once a person has the experience of being understood, a foundation is established to work through more vulnerable and difficult material. It is this proces of establishing a safe and understanding experience and working through of material that allows the possibility of change and the realization of one's true self and potentials.

Who am I? How did I get here? Who do I want to be? I use aspects of Psychodynamic Theory, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and attachment theory to help answer these questions and help you gain a greater sense of possibility and flexibility in your life.
My goal is to help you to (re)discover the inner resources necessary to live a fulfilling life in the face of whatever challenges you are experiencing today. Whether a painful inner experience like depression or anxiety or a devastating life circumstance like loss or trauma, I will help you write a new story in which your preferred outcomes are honored and those painful experiences are integrated into your life in a way that allows you to move forward.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
