A nonpathologizing bodymind (including energetic!) approach can restore at the roots of mental, emotional, and relational issues.
Another day of managing stress, trying to figure out what rules matter and what compromises have the least consequences. Get some rest, miss the deadline. Miss the workout, feel the irritability climb. Seems that playing by the rules has led you astray. The pieces seldom fit together anymore and all you really want is to feel good! Is it too much to ask to have a good relationship? One that loves and accepts you, without minimizing your needs or your hurt. Feeling so alone, when surrounded by people (people who don't hesitate to let you know what they need), is hard to explain. Yet you know it to be true for you.

The condition of our relationships are crucial for overall peace and contentment in our lives. As someone trained in marriage and family therapy, I focus on the space between you and your loved ones. Sometimes there are past histories of resentment, nonproductive communication styles or cognitive filters that are us causing problems. Sometimes our way of being in the world or the structure of our systems keep us stuck in problematic cycles and patterns. In our work together, we can increase self-awareness and create pathways to relational healing.

Pulling from a mix of theories, including Feminist Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, and systemic/ relational approaches, we will work together to find the mix that best supports your personal growth and healing.
Living in this world can be hard, and we all need some help making sense of it from time to time. As a therapist, I hold a space full of humility, humor, and deep, genuine care as you explore your relationship with yourself and with those around you. Using a trauma-informed lens, I will walk beside you as you uncover insight, understanding, and resources that you have had all along. I have a passion for helping clients explore ways that we are impacted by oppressive systems and am LGBTQ+, nonmonogamy, and kind affirming. Above all, I will prioritize being authentic and fully present with you as our conversations unfold.

Megan also specializes in relational and communication skills for parenting, high-conflict divorce, co-parenting, and blended/step-families.
Megan’s ideal client is a child, adolescent, partners, or parent(s) seeking understanding, meaning, and healing in their life and in their relationships. Often, these are clients that have already begun their journey; they’ve read books, taken quizzes, or have completed a workbook and yet, it’s still not working. The ideal client is ready to try something different to reach their potential. Honoring our humanity and the world we live in, I utilize an umbrella approach that begins with a Trauma-Informed and Attachment Lens. Under the umbrella, are approaches used to meet the client where they are at and enable new skills to develop.

My approach is trauma-sensitive and relational.
We all have times when we feel stuck, stressed, confused, hurt, alone, or simply like we're not living our best life. Maybe you’re seeking healing from trauma, or grieving a significant loss. Maybe you want help coping with feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, sadness, and disconnection. Maybe certain habits are getting you down, and you want help overcoming them. Perhaps you’re seeking support in making a significant life decision, or change. Maybe you want healthier relationships, or a deeper spirituality. Or maybe you just want someone to come alongside you and help you figure out how to get back to feeling okay. More like yourself.

I take a relational approach that integrates different methods, while honoring human complexity, alleviating symptoms, and addressing underlying causes.
Life is a journey that occasionally can become difficult, and even painful. Our emotions can be overwhelming, disconnected, or confusing. Our relationships can become challenging and unfulfilling. We can discover we aren't the person we ultimately hope to be. I desire to help people make sense of their struggles and for them to know they aren't alone in the challenges and suffering life brings. Through sincere interest, deep listening, and a devoted presence, my hope is that therapy can be a place to make peace with the past, find renewed joy and richness in the present, and know hope and healing for the future to come.

I believe that most destructive beliefs and behaviors are rooted in the less than nurturing events we experience over the course of our life. Welcome to the human condition! Many of us can benefit from learning how to manage our human experience in healthier, constructive ways that promote growth and personal evolution. I believe in utilizing the brain's neuroplasticity and activating our innate capacity to increase and strengthen positive, growth inspiring beliefs and behaviors.

Do any of the following resonate with you? Resentment is eating away at your joy in life. You are avoiding things. You feel lonely, even when you are with others. You appear to have it all together, but inside you feel raw. Feeling stuck at work, unhappy in relationships, preoccupied, pressured to perform. Everyone keeps talking about 'boundaries' but you're not sure how to create them without feeling guilty. You are an intelligent, caring, and determined person. You want to grow and improve but you're slipping into old patterns. You want to feel present in the moment instead of thinking about what's next.

David is a dedicated therapist with a profound passion for treating PTSD. His approach heavily rooted by his special interest in interconnected neurobiology, a term coined by Dr. Daniel Siegel. Interconnected neurobiology explores the intricate connections within the brain and how they influence our emotional and psychological well-being. This perspective underscores the importance of understanding the brain's complex networks and their role in mental health. David offers a holistic and effective path to recovery, addressing not just the symptoms but also the underlying neural mechanisms.

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

The therapy process is personal in nature, therefore, I believe that it is very important for anyone who is seeking therapy find the right therapist for them. In my practice I rely on several theoretical approaches such as: interpersonal psychology, psychodynamics, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems. My eclectic approach develops a comprehensive and personal approach built on my premise: how we feel, think, and act is because of genetics, upbringing, and life experiences.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
