I can help with issues such as depression, rumination, anxiety, inattention/ADHD, grief/loss, mood swings, and eating disorders, among many others.
Currently accepting new telehealth clients, schedule via our online portal or call Affinity Psychological Services. My ideal client is someone who is ready to learn new skills and make changes in their lives. I believe the core benefit of therapy is working to get off “auto-pilot” by improving mindfulness and awareness of automatic thoughts. Once mindfulness is improved, we can work together to change distorted thoughts into something more rational/adaptive. I seek to help you feel more regulated, or calm, when strong emotions present themselves.

People are unique human beings with a long list of remarkable qualities. Sometimes though, we feel that we have qualities that we need to work on to be our better selves. I work with individuals to find those qualities and strengthen the ones we want to stay around. You may be a good fit for me if you: have ADHD, have children, are a family with adult children in the home, are a lifelong learner, are tired of looking at the positive side all the time, and willing to work on your problems in and out of therapy!

My specialty is helping people with "ADHD," anxiety, depression and/or medical conditions exacerbated by stress learn to regulate their brain/body better.
I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, biofeedback and neurofeedback to help people , including reducing or eliminating the need for medications. I work with Liz Nash, MA, LMFT, AT-RBC and Brenda Hightshoe, MA, LPCC. We treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, traumatic brain injury and learning disabilities. CBT helps you create adaptive thinking. We use quantitative EEG "brain mapping" with the Neuroguide normative database to help see why people have the problems they're having. Quantitative EEG "targets" training with neurofeedback, which helps clients learn to pay attention without drugs, relax, and feel more like themselves.

I most often combine relational talk therapy, with a coaching approach, then I sprinkle in some awesome techniques, and then add in some CBT, ACT, or DBT.
Do you feel stuck, stale or stagnant with your anxiety, depression or mental health? Is trauma a factor in your life that needs to dealt with? Are you feeling sad from a death or sad and/or angry from a divorce, from a break up, or from caregiving and just need to process all that has happened? Therapy can help you be more aware, calmer, have more healing, discernment, more authenticity, more ease, less negativity, better boundaries, be less triggered/less personal, more personal power, better self care, more vulnerability, and healthier connections. Basically, therapy can help you be a better version of yourself!

Do you feel like you have to fight your own brain to get through the day? So many people feel like they’re a fish out of water, or like they didn’t get the manual to life that everyone else seems to have memorized. This can be really frustrating, and a really isolating experience. Many times navigating the emotions that come with this experience can add a whole other layer to that struggle, and nobody deserves to struggle with that alone. Having the skills to navigate anxiety, stress, and trauma can help people feel reconnected to those around them and help them build the life they always wanted.

I have training and experience dealing with a range of issues from grief to ADHD, but everyone's path is unique.
It takes a lot of courage to reach out to a therapist, but you've taken that first step already. I don't know your story yet, but if you are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, or loss, you don't need to go through it alone. You deserve support, comfort, and help. Whatever you're struggling with, you're invited to my office - in person or virtual - for a conversation.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
