I practice somatic and relational therapy.
Many of my clients have learned that their experiences can be described as "trauma", and that trauma is often "stored in the body." These experiences can range from major life events, to buildup of chronic stress, to difficult relationships from the past. My clients often are curious how their early life, attachment with caregivers, or past relationships have affected them. Somatic and relational therapy can help to heal traumas of all kinds that are carried in our bodies and minds. My collaborative and flexible approach means that you have a voice in how we work on things together, and we go at a pace that works best for you.

I combine Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Sensorimotor psychotherapy (a somatic based therapy) to support people impacted by life transitions, depression, anxiety, effects of past trauma, and challenges within interpersonal relationships.
Accepting new clients. Feeling stuck in your thoughts? Maybe you have trouble finding joy in day-to-day life or you find yourself spending more time worrying than not. In my work, I help people understand their symptoms, learn what might have gotten them here, and help them find a path to feeling better. I do this by using my knowledge of the brain and body to empower people to build self compassion, change their thought and behavior patterns, and build a balanced life.

I practice person-centered therapy that draws on cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, somatic awareness, motivational interview, trauma-focused, solution-focused, strengths-based approaches, and anti-oppressive liberation psychology.
Do things feel more difficult than they used to? Does it feel confusing or tender? Not make sense? Would you rather feel whole, authentic, and capable? I approach therapy with an emphasis on helping you understand your experience with clarity, recognize what is happening, and build your ability to work through challenges, understand what has been difficult, and grow into a wholeness that helps you feel like you, and sets you on a path of fulfilling your goals and aspirations. For many of us, lasting relief best happens with the support of a receptive, caring, professional, who can understand us, and offer skillful tools.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat several different types of mental health symptoms, mind-body and somatic techniques, and family systems and parts work.
I believe trust and safety are the 2 most important things in therapy. I strive to create this with a warm and non-judgmental presence, humor when appropriate, and listening to truly understand you. To help you make the changes you want in your life, I use a compassionate yet direct approach, helping you to challenge your thought processes and behaviors. I specialize in trauma and addictions, though work with a variety of other issues you may struggle with like having a new baby, relationship and trust issues, divorce, anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, impulsivity or concentration issues.

Somatic therapy can be a tool to “get out of our heads” and learn to listen to other information like the wisdom of the body.
Sometimes we need a little extra support. Maybe you feel like something just isn’t quite right, but you’re not sure what it is. Maybe you know what is causing some difficulty, like a big change, a loss, being hurt in a relationship, or trauma. Or maybe you have been feeling a lot of anxiety or stress lately. Life can bring challenges. In our work together I will help you uncover your strengths and capacity to heal.

Somatic therapy can help add a new depth to your inner growth and integration.
Life gets hard, messy, and overwhelming which can lead us to feel like we’re not good enough. We get stuck in the stories of our inner critic and everything just feels harder. We turn to disconnection, numbing out, or over-working to get by. Somewhere along the way, we might even lose connection with our self and the people who matter to us. It can be difficult to understand why we’re feeling this way and what our needs are.

My approach is emotionally focused, somatic (body), and systemic/relational.
Welcome to a place of support for those relationships most important to you. I offer therapy in a relational context which explores the interconnectedness between self and others. I believe this is vital to well living. When relationships are out of balance, disconnectedness can occur. By creating awareness, empowerment can be found and utilized for change. I invite you to better navigate yourself and your relations!

I am a white, ciswoman, eager to work with adults interested in integrating Somatic Experiencing work into psychotherapy, a body based trauma therapy. If you recognize that your personal struggles are connected to the pervasive impact of the social, political, structural and power dynamics in which we live, working on that connection can be powerful. Embodied psychotherapy can be helful if you are feeling stuck and flat, or anxious and feel like you can't turn off, or if you flip back and forth between anxious and despairing. I hope to support your natural resilience so you can move through the stressors of life with more ease.

I have specialized training in: grief and bereavement, anxiety, depression, forgiveness, sensorimotor training, trauma informed, mind/body practices, meditation, somatic experiencing, polyvagal theory and internal family systems.
We can be kind, strong, intelligent, and resourceful individuals and still there will be times when we need other people to support us, that’s just how we’re built. Acknowledging that vulnerability and asking for what we need is true wisdom. I honor and respect that in you. Every person is a unique expression of life, our work together supports you in embodying an authentic way of living. I deeply respect the painful things that bring people to seek support, as thresholds that offer the potential for healing, connection and purpose, and work to cultivate that optimism while also honoring the suffering that leads to such transitions

My approach is rooted in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), which focuses on somatic and emotional experiences in service of giving rise to insight.
Healing is a process that we are not meant to do alone. I am here to help soften the barriers that prevent you from healing, and remove obstacles that block your full potential. During each session, I create a warm, non-judgemental space in which we can work together to unpack the challenges that you face in your life. I am committed to helping you overcome the root cause of your problems rather than simply rearranging what’s on the surface.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
