I run one of the few therapy groups in the Twin Cities with an exclusive focus on schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders.
Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders are my area of specialty. I offer one-on-one therapy, family therapy, parenting therapy, and a group therapy called Living with Schizophrenia. The social services many clients benefit from (social workers, psychiatrists, etc.) are often difficult to find, and I collaborate with families, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and others to help you figure out what you need and how to get it. I also provide support for the emotional costs of the illness and help clients learn skills to manage their symptoms. Sessions are usually fully covered by insurance.

Sometimes in life we can feel like we have no control over what is happening, the paths our relationships are taking, or what the future might have in store for us. We can get to a place where we are stuck in a continuous cycle of negative thinking, gloomy feelings, and ineffective behaviors. I provide therapy to individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, relationship changes/separation, substance use issues, stress management, academic challenges, sports/performance concerns, chronic illness, sexuality/gender identity issues, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum, and life balance.

I work with adolescents and adults struggling with body image issues, self-esteem, eating disorders, depression, intergenerational and other types of trauma, ADHD, women's issues, grief, life transitions, and psychosis, among other issues.
I transitioned to the counseling profession at age 50 and I believe my diverse background before becoming a counselor is a benefit for my clients. I draw upon my lived experiences as an athlete, entrepreneur, business owner, wife, and mother, as well as my education and training in counseling. As a person-centered, strength-based therapist, I strive to build a collaborative relationship with clients, help them discover and build on their strengths, and work together to determine a path forward. I believe everyone can heal and change, and that journey most often begins with gentle acceptance and self-compassion.

I currently have openings for individuals and couples impacted by trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, bipolar and schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and/or substance use. I prioritize intakes for members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are seeking a safe space to process trauma and explore identity. Trauma, anxiety, and the pressure of meeting societal expectations can impact every area of our lives. Left unaddressed, these impacts may leave us feeling exhausted, shameful, and hopeless. In our work together, you can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space to unpack, address, and develop skills to better manage these stressors.

I have the awesome privilege of getting to work with teens, families, adults and therapists all day long. I often meet teens who are uncomfortable with the idea of going to therapy. If your teen works with me, I will work closely with them to ensure that therapy with me isn't uncomfortable. I read teens well & will work hard to help your teen have a positive therapy experience. Teens are accepted in my practice for who they are in the world & they have told me that this acceptance is helpful to them during a time of intense growth & change.

You are likely seeking therapy because of distress and confusion around difficult emotional experiences that you are struggling to understand and resolve. This distress and confusion can result in anxiety, relationship issues and depression. Through our work together, we can help resolve these struggles by building an understanding of where they come from and how to respond to them.

We work with individuals of all ages with anxiety, mood and related issues across the lifespan. When working with younger children, we meet with parents without the child for the first evaluation session, and then meet with the child individually during the second evaluation session. Our center also routinely works with college-aged and young adult clients. Here, our therapists incorporate components of therapy geared specifically to this age group: identity development, fostering independence and autonomy, and helping clients navigate the challenges experienced during their transition into adulthood.

Psychosis Therapists

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
