I work with my clients to provide a safe and open space to explore current challenges and their impact on daily life. I value the importance of a therapeutic relationship and focus on building personable rapport with my clients in order to establish trust and acceptance. I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) most often in my therapy as I find this to be the best approach for meeting my client's needs.
For the past 25 years, I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression or other complex feelings related to difficult life transitions, relationships, traumas. My overall goal of therapy is simple: to help each client connect with tools and supports that will allow them to live the meaningful life they are striving for. I am humanistic, compassionate, actively engaged and enjoy humor. My goals are to work hard alongside you in creating a life that matches your values, while also creating a safe place for you to explore.

I am experienced in many therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, DBT, ACT, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy.
CURRENTLY FULL, maintaining a waitlist. You feel shut down, trapped by negative feelings and memories. Unhappiness and worry are familiar companions. Negative emotions and thoughts interrupt the ability to be your full self. Unsatisfying relationships with friends and family sap your energy. You’d like to change the patterns in your life that don't seem to be working, but can’t find a way to do so. You want a therapist who accepts, understands and validates you, while offering real skills and strategies for dealing with your distress.

I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and pull from CBT, relational, ACT, person-centered, feminist and humanistic approaches.
I currently have openings for Mondays and Fridays! I believe each person is doing the best they can with what they have, and have a passion for working with those who wish to learn how to best use their strengths effectively to reach their goals. I enjoy working with adults seeking to learn more about themselves, including the patterns that may have stopped working for them. Few things feel more honorable than sitting with those who are open to challenge themselves, while honoring their needs, wants and goals. I love working with those with the desire to continue growing through every chapter of life.

They also include therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and humanistic interventions.
I strongly believe in the transformative power of therapy. I work with clients using curiosity and understanding to explore the roadblocks that keep them from becoming who they want to be. These roadblocks can be met with skills and tools or space to process, ultimately highlighting the client’s own ability to create change. Therapy should be unique to the individual. I am passionate about creating a collaborative therapeutic relationship, and am dedicated to finding the style of therapy that works best for each client. I use a blend of theoretical orientations and offer a direct, holistic, solution-focused lens.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
