My therapy model begins with its roots in authenticity. How can people engage with one another, specifically on sensitive or difficult topics, if they feel that the other person is not truly being themselves? I bring a steady presence to the therapy relationship to help manage difficult times and difficult interactions. Through therapy I hope that clients gain awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and actions and in doing so gain the ability to utilize this awareness to create a positive impact on their lives.

I have experience working with adolescents and teenagers, particularly males, and help them through family struggles, school problems, relationships, depression, anxiety, and any other concern they may be experiencing.
I enjoy working with adults and teenagers as they navigate many of life's transitions. I make it my goal to establish a genuine relationship so that you feel validated and respected and our time together is centered on coming along side of you to create meaningful change. For those having thoughts of death or dying, it can be extremely distressing and I want to align with you to determine the best path forwards to manage and decrease those thoughts. I also value the role of faith in pursuing healing and strive to incorporate faith based conversations and interventions to assist you in your goals.

If you struggle with excessive anxiety, depression, anger, negative thoughts about yourself or others, it might time for a self tune-up and work on how you see yourself, view others and make the primary changes you want to make. There are many types of helpers out there, many good and wonderful people, but what I focus on is how you can change you and how you interact with others in the world. My focus is understanding your background and help you identify what you want to work on, change, accept, and/or do with your life. Hopefully, we can do this work in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

The process of starting therapy for many can feel daunting, scary, or embarrassing; but it doesn’t have to be. Many times, life places problems on our plate we haven’t asked for and de mands answers we don’t have access to. You might be wondering how you can be firm and kind as parent. Maybe you’re struggling with how to manage an addiction or quiet the inner voice which hasn’t been very kind lately.

Mitch asserts that significant personal change is achievable for everyone, though the journey can be de manding. Much like water, we often seek the path of least resistance, particularly in the face of pain, hurt, disappointment, loneliness, or fear. Nonetheless, transformation is not meant to occur in isolation. By supporting one another, hope and strength can emerge through vulnerability, shared knowledge and a clear understanding of one's goals.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
