I believe that healing is a highly unique journey that takes courage, curiosity, and acceptance, but frankly, it looks just a little bit different for everyone. Over the years, I have developed a strong interest in working with individuals navigating life transitions whether that is college, graduate school, becoming a parent, significant relationship changes, grief and loss, or career related shifts. Oftentimes we can feel overwhelmed, disengaged, anxious, and uncertain about what is yet to come amidst all this change. You are ready for something different, you are ready to live a more fulfilling and connected life.

I believe in the inherent glory, beauty, and strength within each individual. While this may sound idealistic, it's undeniable that our lives often encompass brokenness, pain, darkness, and shame, which can obscure our true essence. My mission is to guide you through understanding your personal narrative or "mythos" that has sculpted your identity. This involves exploring your self-perception, spiritual beliefs, and interactions with the world. I am committed to journeying with you through the depths of pain and darkness to uncover the profound truth of our existence - that we are intimately known and cherished by God.

You may be experiencing loss and sadness that seems endless, or you may be stressed by life events.
Life is complex and often leaves us struggling with transitions, feeling anxious and/or depressed and searching for relief. Life after any loss can feel confusing, without direction, hopeless, full of regret or in some cases filled with relief. I believe listening to you and receiving your story with compassion, will offer healing, hope, and an opportunity for positive change. I endeavor to receive and hold your pain, sadness, anger, or other emotions with grace, while supporting you as you move toward positive change and renewed well-being.

I have a personal commitment to working with grief and loss, and those recovering from trauma.
I specialize in working with adults who are looking for a space to learn about and feel compassion towards themselves. I became a therapist because of the inherent value I believe that being seen, known, and held by another can provide. I understand the significance of and deeply value the therapeutic relationship, which I believe is one of the most powerful tools for change. I use warmth, humility, humor, and empathy to approach my clients. I often work with adults coping with depression, anxiety, grief, the after-effects of trauma, perinatal and postpartum concerns, and familial and relationship issues.

I have helped individuals find their way through depression, anxiety, trauma and grief, all while honoring the truth of their stories.
We all have our own stories to tell. Sometimes it can be hard to tell those stories. It's either too painful, we're worried what other may think, or we may think our stories are somehow wrong or not worth telling. Whether your story is filled with sadness, pain, fear, or loneliness you should be able to share your story and feel the validation of the uniqueness inherent in it. You should also be able to see the joy hiding inside the struggle.

You can incorporate their loss into your new, unique life and still find fulfillment and happiness again.
Your recent loss has brought up many questions for you about the future. You've been wondering how you will survive and move forward now that someone so important to you is gone. You're not trying to deny the loss, but you don't know how to adapt to it. While others continue life as usual, you feel your life has reached a standstill. You can't go back to the way things used to be and you're not sure how things can go on. You were not ready to say goodbye, and now you're not ready to continue your life without them. You wish you could find relief from this grief.

My experience includes treating trauma, depression, anxiety, autism as well as grief and loss.
As a mental health professional, I strive to create a safe and secure space that is free of judgement in order to facilitate exploration and inner healing. I believe establishing a therapeutic relationship based on trust, care and acceptance is so important. From my own journey with mental health, I understand how exhausting and frustrating it can be to get the help you need within the traditional mental health system. I want you to know that you are not alone.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
