Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with individuals facing a spectrum of challenges, including Co-occurring disorders, Bipolar disorder, PTSD, Borderline Personality, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, Agoraphobia, Schizophrenia, and Substance Abuse Disorder.
The world can feel like a lonely place when you struggle with feelings of anxiety and depression. Maybe what you are feeling can’t be explained and no one knows how you feel. People have told you to "just get over" things that have hurt you or to suck it up when you feel low. Maybe you were never taught how to express the way you feel emotionally and if you did, you were dismissed. If this is the case, know you are not alone there are people out there that feel the same as you do. There is hope in therapy. There is a safe place to be validated to be heard.

In my years of experience, I have worked in hospitals, residential communities, community mental health centers & non-profit organizations assisting individuals with mental health and substance abuse concerns.
I have been in the counseling and psychology field for the past 20+ years. I know that it is difficult to ask for help. However, people sometimes need additional support beyond their family and friends. I work with, adults and adolescents that experience low self-esteem, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, addiction, trauma, and have trouble regulating their emotions. If you are a parent looking for services for your child, I am a registered play therapist and I will work with your child to resolve fears, worries, sadness, and build healthy esteem and assist you in providing on-going support to your child.

Through my work, I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychoeducation, and motivational techniques, all within a harm-reduction framework. This is individualized, robust, and always centered around your goals. Together, we’ll build strategies for self-discovery, manage your stress effectively, and cultivate a sense of inner peace—even when life feels like a storm. As someone with a deep understanding of dysfunctional family dynamics, adult children of alcoholics (ACOA), and attachment issues, I’m passionate about helping individuals reclaim their worth and rewire the narratives that no longer serve them.

PTSD and trauma, addiction, and burnout are topics I'm most passionate about.
Hello and welcome! I'm Alex a clinical social worker and mental health rehabilitation provider since 2007. I'm a firm believer in balancing the books and my years of practice-based evidence to meet you where you're at. I would be a great therapist for you if you desire accountability, direct/assertive communication, constructive criticism of behavior/thought patterns. If you are a frequent late cancel/no show'er, fly by the seat of your pants, TLDR/didn't check texts/can't find it in my email or are uncomfortable using technology, this caveat will be Exhibit A when we discuss termination of services.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
