Hi, I've been a Clinical Social Worker for over 20 years. I have worked with a wide variety of ages, including children, teens, young adults, and adults. In addition, I have worked with many families and am well-versed in parenting support. I have done clinic-based work, home-based work, and currently, on a part-time basis, I provide equine-assistsed therapy. I truly believe that all people have the answers to their own problems and consider my clients the "experts" on themselves. Supporting people to take charge of their lives and reach their potential is extremely important to me.

In my work with couples, I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy (level three trained) and attachment-based interventions (EFT).
You are feeling alone and overwhelmed. You are anxious and the negative thoughts in your head are becoming louder and more difficult to control. Your sleep is poor and when you wake you feel tired already. You want help from a holistic perspective. I will teach you how to manage your mind and your nervous system so that you can function better during the day and sleep well at night. I will help you heal the root causes of your anxiety. Your relationships and your health will improve. A "fresh look" look at your difficulties might bring hope into a situation that you have considered to be hopeless.

With others, I use models such as internal family systems and attachment-based therapy.
I am a dedicated therapist who provides empathy, compassion, and humor in individual therapy sessions for children, teenagers, and young adults. I am passionate about working with individuals who have experienced trauma that arises as depression, anxiety, and behavior difficulties. Childhood experiences often continue to influence our lives as we transition into adolescence and adulthood. Clients that I work with tend to have difficulties with asserting boundaries, experience low self-esteem, adversity to stress, and perfectionistic tendencies. I welcome you to give space for you or your child to process life experiences.

My approach incorporates relational, psychodynamic, attachment-based and holistic lenses.
If you're reading this page, you are likely experiencing some emotional distress and/or dissatisfaction that you would like support to understand and resolve. Perhaps you can identify causes and perhaps it just feels confusing. Meeting with someone to gain understanding around where these experiences originate, as well as tools to address them, is a great (and brave) step. I would love to chat to see if we may be a good fit in that important work.

I have found safety and relational connection are keys to accelerate healing, and I work from an experiential and attachment-based approach.
Considering therapy can stir up the question, "Is healing even possible for me?" My answer is, "Yes, it is!" I've found that when issues come to the surface and disrupt our lives, they are ready for healing! Our issues often began as coping mechanisms to deal with difficult life experiences. These “solutions” then take on a life of their own and keep us stuck in negative patterns. I help my clients find where their problems got stuck, release them, and experience healing and freedom. I also believe that experiencing positive emotions (like joy, hope, and laughter) is an integral part of healing, and these are part of my sessions.

I practice through an attachment-based, systemic lens.
There are many challenges facing us all today. If your child is struggling in school with behaviors or is having difficulty at home regulating their emotions, you may feel at a loss trying to navigate these everyday. I specialize in working with children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and autism. My approach includes working with parents and caregivers to navigate these challenges and provide coaching and support. I find it important to include a child’s support system in the therapeutic process to promote lasting change.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
