I use Emotionally Focused Therapy, an empirically supported method.
Research shows consistently that no matter what counseling method is used, the connection between you & your therapist is the essential factor in feeling better about yourself and your life. I create a safe and supportive relationship with people. It is important that you feel heard, acknowledged & supported. This is the significant ingredient for your personal relationship transformation. In addition to deep listening, learning how to be resilient and knowing that you can support yourself through life's challenges will give you a sense of empowerment and self-esteem. I am active in the sessions, warm, supportive & practical.

My greatest joy is to help people find their inner voice and personal power. Trained and Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy, I work with both individuals and couples. Looking at attachment patterns that are unconsciously learned in childhood, we will see where and how those patterns play out in your life and how they hold you in unhealthy beliefs. Together, we will unravel the thought processes that thrive in judgment, scarcity, blame, and fear. I truly believe the healing process toward change occurs once YOU gain insight into yourself.

The model I work from is called Emotionally Focused Therapy, and I have extensive training in this model.
It is my honor to walk beside people during the more difficult times in their lives and help them make sense of their stories. As a trained outside voice, I am here to help you when you get stuck and disconnected. I believe that we are not meant to do this life alone — the more support we have, the stronger we are. When we get help, it lightens the load. My primary clinical interests are working with trauma, working with relationship problems and working with military families. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families.

I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy including training on treating addiction and trauma through an attachment lens, working with shame, and sexuality.
My specialty is working with couples and individuals to strengthen their mental health through building secure attachments with themselves and others. Together we explore life experiences that have led to feelings of attachment insecurity and we work to build new experiences of emotionally safety and security. With couples, we explore places they get stuck and help create new communication patterns and a deeper connection to strengthen their bonds. I also work with individuals who are struggling with relationships challenges including healing from antagonistic/narcississtic relationships.

Please note: limited daytime availability. If you're here, I applaud you. I understand the decision to see a therapist has many different starting points and it's not always an easy path getting here. Perhaps this is your first time seeking therapy and perhaps you've sought therapy before. No matter where you may be on your journey, I would be honored to support you. Life can be hard and experiences can feed us many lies that cause us to believe we are broken, crazy, or damaged. It is important to me that all of my clients realize the truth that they are worthy, loveable, capable, and resilient.

Learning about ourselves is a lifelong process. We tend to think that we are steadfast beings, stuck in our ways. I believe that we are all capable of connecting deeper with ourselves and the world around us through curiosity, creativity, and relationship-building. Therapy hopefully becomes a place where you learn to care for and integrate each part of yourself as you navigate the complex dialectics of life: fear and courage, acceptance and change, beauty and pain. Contradictions are uncomfortable, but must co-exist. “I still don’t understand the play…” “It doesn’t matter, just keep telling the story” - Wes Anderson, Asteroid City

It is my pleasure to work with individuals and families who have the desire to improve their situation in this life. My therapeutic experience and education have given me an understanding of brain development and its correlation to anxiety, trauma, and issues within family relationships. This is why I use brain science to make sense of mental health struggles.

Is your child navigating intense emotions? Are you feeling overwhelmed by countless blog posts on the ‘right’ ways to support them? Maybe your child is experiencing some of the many stressors of growing up—transitioning to kindergarten, moving from elementary to middle school, getting in trouble at school, making and keeping friends, dealing with fears like the dark or monsters, handling separation from you, welcoming a new sibling, or facing other family challenges. Starting therapy can feel daunting and uncomfortable; I understand. It’s not easy to be vulnerable or to entrust someone with your child’s well-being.

The journey to emotional health begins with discovering and nurturing the authentic self. When we make choices that are inconsistent with who we are, our ability to participate in life, to love and work is compromised. This can often lead to avoiding the things that truly matter to us causing us to feel depressed or anxious. When this happens, we tend to avoid more. And the cycle continues. In my work, I help clients (ages 16+) re-engage with life focusing on their values and what matters most to them.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
