Every person is different and has their own distinct challenges and their own story. That is why it is crucial to me that your care is specific to you and meets your individual needs. In therapy I meet clients where they are at, see us as equals, and build relationship with rapport.
Welcome! Brene Brown, social worker/researcher states: "One day you will tell your story of how you overcame and what you went through and it will be someone else's survival guide". I believe in our ability to overcome our struggles in life, and how these can bring out our strengths and character that we otherwise would not have known in ourselves. Starting therapy is a journey and a courageous first step to take. I have confidence that with support and guidance you can find strength and meaning in the difficulties that bring you to therapy.

I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families who feel as if they are stuck in old habits and repeating frustrating patterns.
There are several good reasons to find a therapist. Oftentimes, people seek assistance and support during times of transitions, a crisis, or because they've become stuck or confused about how their life is progressing. Common feelings during these times are often expressed through a increase in anxiety, developing depression, or a combination or different symptoms that simply start to feel overwhelming. If this is the place you find yourself and if you are looking to make a positive change in your life then your are in the right frame of mind to benefit from therapy.

Some days you may not want to feel so weighted; your head to not race; your intimate partner to not be that passing ship; or so moved by compulsion. You may just need some safe space to figure it all out. This can be your sorting place. My goal is to help you better identify and understand your symptoms and improve overall coping. You are an individual, not a cookie cutter, so your treatment approach will be unique to your needs, and each person's journey is individual. Through goal setting, we can help you to develop decisions congruent with the life you want. I use CBT, ACT, mindfulness, & Gottman Method (completed Level 1 & 2).

Acquire Mental Health offers individual, family, and couples therapy for all ages.
Our mission is to normalize mental health, reduce the stigma, strengthen the community, and help people reach their goals/dreams. We use your expertise on yourself, your strengths, and our knowledge about mental health to help you get what you want out of therapy. We are someone on the outside who can recognize patterns, challenge them when needed, offer ways to change that pattern, but we don't shame you if you don't want to, can't or are not ready. We understand that you need a connection, and aren't an "authority" figure. We acknowledge we are human too.

I offer therapy for individuals and couples.
Sometimes we all feel lost. And yet, we all have an internal guidance system that can help us understand what's important in our lives and how to make choices. My job as a therapist is to help you strengthen that connection between you and your inner knowing. My role is to help you explore and understand yourself better, gently challenge when needed and give you feedback that may help you to find your way. My hope is that after each session, you feel that your needs have have been addressed and that you leave with questions to explore or tools to try out. Change can be difficult and it is my hope that I may support you through it.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
