Being a healthy, balanced individual means you are caring for all parts of yourself: mental health, physical health, relational health, emotional health, etc. All the parts of you matter. Who we are as a person is comprised of everything we have seen, felt, believed, & experienced, as well as what we have taken in from our family's experiences and those around us. It is all part of your individual story and your story matters. I enjoy working with individuals who are striving to gain insight into themselves, their communities, and learn ways to manage and decrease presenting symptoms.

Starting therapy can often feel like writers block. You are ready to compose and illustrate your story, but may feel bewildered on how to begin. The scene is set, the characters are in place, but the plot lines may be out of focus or seem beyond your grasp. This is where I can be of help. It is my privilege to hear your narratives, your characters and your scenes in order to validate, honor and share in your growth. It would be an honor to assist in making meaning of your story for whatever chapter of life you are in.

I have helped many people succeed with life transitions that were struggling to make changes on their own. It’s difficult to know what to do when you’re hurting while also navigating a change in relationship or job or moving. It can feel very isolating. In therapy you’re able to take the time for you to get the answers you’re looking for and the relief from the pain. If you are a person who is suffering from separation or divorce, a person who is anxious about a change in career, or has experienced trauma(s) that impact you today I can help.

At various points in life we can become frustrated, stuck or confused and uncertain about how to move beyond the frustration or confusion. I welcome adolescents and adults who find themselves in a difficult place in life and are eager to move forward in their lives. I see these as valuable opportunities to engage with clients to make sure I understand their current situation and their desired outcomes, even when the client may be initially unsure themselves. I will provide the direction needed for you to more clearly see those goals & from there we will work together to identify an array of options available for forward movement.

Deciding to change takes courage. Starting therapy takes courage. Many only call a therapist when they have tried everything they know to do. Others are tired of reaching the same crossroads time and again - whether in our personal lives (with issues such as anxiety, depression, fear), in our relationships (communication, intimacy, etc.), or a past experience that keeps one from living the full life once imagined. Whatever brings you to therapy, Conscious Healing Counseling is happy to discuss the many options available to you and how we can be most helpful.

Sometimes all you need is just an ounce of hope. Maybe it comes from the lifted burden of a listening ear. Maybe it’s a new way to see a situation, or even experiencing an “aha” moment. These hopeful nudges are what fuels my passion for counseling. I work with clients to help achieve these moments so that you will feel better, think clearer, and have a better overall picture of life. As a therapist who has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, I welcome the opportunity to work with anyone who is willing to risk being vulnerable in order to grow.

Vulnerability drives the therapeutic process which leads to personal growth and transformation, however, the path to vulnerability lies in the collaborative relationship between the therapist and the client. It is essential to understand that the journey toward healing starts with a deeper understanding of oneself, followed by acceptance of who you are before any positive change can be achieved. The central themes and patterns that we develop during the early stage of our lives play a vital role in the quality of relationships that we develop with ourselves and others as we transcend into our adulthood.

Maybe you’re a couple rehearsing the same argument over and over, a person who's often disappointed in their relationships or someone who went through a stressful, traumatic or tragic event making life too difficult. Maybe it's hard helping your child who's often tearful, worried or sad, frequently has melt-downs, trouble getting along with others or lying?

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
