I specialize in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and offer state certified DBT IOP (intensive outpatient programing) services for both young adults (18-23) and adolescents and their families (12-18).
I enjoy working with teens and young adults that have intense emotions, struggle with relationships, communication, and managing urges/impulsivity. I have a passion for DBT and love teaching to increase skillfulness in areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. When you know better, you can do better—we don't know what we don't know. Building a life you like when in pain isn't easy and you can do hard things. I want to help you build the life you want—whatever that is. "People underestimate their capacity for change. There is never a right time to do a difficult thing". -John Porter

Hi, I'm a clinical psychologist and have spent the last 22 years providing DBT in the Twin Cities community; first during my doctoral internship, then for 15 years at the University of Minnesota Psychiatry Department, and now in my private practice. I have been trained in multiple variations of DBT by recognized experts in DBT. I specialize in working with individuals who have a history of trauma and offer prolonged exposure as a treatment for PTSD. My training and experience have prepared me for helping individuals with a history of or actively struggling with suicidal thoughts and ideation.

CURRENTLY FULL, maintaining a waitlist. You feel shut down, trapped by negative feelings and memories. Unhappiness and worry are familiar companions. Negative emotions and thoughts interrupt the ability to be your full self. Unsatisfying relationships with friends and family sap your energy. You’d like to change the patterns in your life that don't seem to be working, but can’t find a way to do so. You want a therapist who accepts, understands and validates you, while offering real skills and strategies for dealing with your distress.

I've practiced Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for 11 years.
When was the last time you had a good laugh? Or felt like your brain was calm? Or felt really confident that you were running your own life; not your anxiety, or obsessive thoughts, or big emotions. If it feels like it's been a while since you could actually enjoy life, then maybe it's a good thing you're here. Therapy can seem like a really serious thing to jump into. It is! It doesn't need to feel that way though. It's possible to do hard things, face the fears and anxieties that keep you stuck, and grow into the person you want to be. You can do all of that, and it can even be fun. Enjoyable. Something you look forward to.
