How are you showing up in your life? Perhaps you are exhausted by efforts to avoid emotional pain, with the result being you avoid being present in your life. Or perhaps you stay mired in forms of emotional pain due to its familiarity or its seeming inescapability. I find great meaning in helping clients move toward their vision of a more fulfilling life. I enjoy working with adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, challenges with substance use, and/or difficulties with adjusting to new life circumstances – who want to better connect with themselves, their friends and loved ones, and the natural world.

I believe the problems we experience in living are woven into the fabric of our lives and rooted in enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. These problems develop in relationship to others over the course of our lives. And it is in relationship—a relationship in which the attentive presence of another is truly and deeply felt—that these problems can be healed. In an atmosphere of curiosity and acceptance, we will work together to deepen your awareness and understanding of your needs, desires, and patterns of relating so you may experience greater freedom and fulfillment in your life.

We are creatures whose habits arise/evolve for many reasons.
Psychotherapy involves working together to build connections where safe communication can occur. Most of my patients seek a guide, confidant, teacher, or objective bystander who can help identify difficulties in relationships & devise strategies/build skills to help them cope with struggles in life. I work primarily w/ adolescents/young adults who struggle with "launching" into the adult world of school & work, with adults who have a hard time managing pain & chronic health problems, with people who have struggles related to sexual health, and with people experiencing grief & loss. Contact me directly via my office cell number at (612) 396-6949.

Research shows that many therapy approaches are helpful - the key is to find the right fit for each person's needs.
I work with clients to set goals that make sense to them, and then bring the right therapy resources to help them meet those goals. If someone needs a practical solution to a right-now problem, we start there. If someone wants a place to feel seen and heard with compassion while they think their concerns through, we start there. It's my job to know as much as I can about the field of psychology and therapy - and bring that information to the conversation with you. Your only job is just to come as you are!

We all experience the pains of life. Individual. Relational. Societal. Existential. Past. Present. Future. In our pain, we do our best to live well with ourselves and our communities. We survive and attempt to thrive in an age that is increasingly polarized and disconnected from our hu manity. I am interested in supporting people with the issues of living. What is our purpose? What is our truth? What is our response to pain? How do we remain connected to ourselves and others? What are we seeking? How do we contribute to this world?

Psychotherapy is something that happens between people...you and me. It is a process that I expertly and sensitively guide, but it is something that we experience together. Relationships, past and present, may be a source of pain, frustration, or fear...but they are also the key to unlocking your full potential. Together, we will work to alleviate your most pressing problems as well as to develop a fuller understanding of the deeper, underlying issues that keep you stuck in emotional and relational patterns that limit your capacity to more fully give and receive love.

You're here because something about sex or your relationship has been a concern for months or maybe years. You wonder "will it always be this way? Is it possible to feel better?" It's lonely and overwhelming to feel disconnected from your sexuality and your partner. It can cause a rift in your social life, trickle into your work, and your general ability to relax. I'm here to help you discover, heal, and renew erotic pleasure.

I am a trauma-informed bodyworker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner offering a body-centered approach for the healing of trauma and chronic pain. Traditional therapy approaches often have difficulty addressing the bodily effects of trauma, anxiety and depression. Habits and patterns that get "stuck" in the body can keep these types of issues from resolving, even after many years of successful therapy. As an adjunct to traditional therapy, my body-centered approach to Somatic Experiencing provides a unique opportunity to support the physical integration of mental and emotional change that help people recovering from trauma to truly FEEL better.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
