I am passionate about working with neurodivergent and queer and trans folx, those living with personality disorders, single mothers, those who are survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, and those who have committed sexual abuse. I do so from a trauma focused, social justice, and relational lens. I utilize Internal Family Systems and "parts" work to help you learn to identify and process the parts of yourself that may need a little more attention, love, and patience. I am rooted in Relational Theory, Attachment Theory, and Schema Therapy.

Do you need a new approach to therapy? The aim of Zen Therapy is mind-control and social control. First, you learn to still the body while controlling your states of mind using a meditation practice focused on concentration. Secondly, the behavioral and analytical method is called Transactional Analysis. We will apply it to make sense of your personality, your childhood decisions, and how you communicate. This process will clarify the repetitive Script you are playing out. You will choose intimacy, rather than the Games you play with others, and will actively structure your time for work, learning, and play.

We all need a little help and a new perspective sometimes. Issues like trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, relationship concerns, self-worth, disordered eating, and grief are hard to navigate on our own sometimes. My job is not to tell you what to do or what you want to hear. Instead, I aim to create a compassionate and collaborative space to explore unresolved traumatic experiences that are negatively impacting you and excavate problematic patterns - while identifying solutions to current problems, fostering your resilience, and unearthing your potential.

Being here proves that you can do hard things. It’s not always easy to take the next step and eat your mental health vegetables, or however you personally want to frame the idea of therapy in your mind. As a clinician, I strive to make my clients feel seen and heard no matter the reason they are seeking therapy. I enjoy working with clients from age 13 through adults of any age on a wide variety of topics including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, grief, LGBTQIA+, and chronic health concerns/disabilities. Client-centered practice is very important to me. I love working with folks on building and practicing coping skills.

Who am I? How did I get here? Who do I want to be? I use aspects of Psychodynamic Theory, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and attachment theory to help answer these questions and help you gain a greater sense of possibility and flexibility in your life.
My goal is to help you to (re)discover the inner resources necessary to live a fulfilling life in the face of whatever challenges you are experiencing today. Whether a painful inner experience like depression or anxiety or a devastating life circumstance like loss or trauma, I will help you write a new story in which your preferred outcomes are honored and those painful experiences are integrated into your life in a way that allows you to move forward.

I primarily incorporate tools from psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, CBT, ACT and DBT.
Welcome! I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults. I strive to develop a safe and trusting relationship as I believe it's the foundation of successful psychotherapy. I take a holistic approach to working with my clients in the therapy room. I practice from a strengths-based framework and believe that one cannot be treated in isolation, but rather within the family and environmental systems they engage with every day. I believe in the importance of meeting you exactly where you are at, and providing an empathic, non-judgmental space for you to process through your experiences.

I would describe my art therapy style as nondirective, person-centered, informed by existential and psychodynamic theories.
When working with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, or young adult clients, I do not shy away from those who struggle with traditional power dynamics and authority. I embrace clients’ need for their autonomy to be respected and honored in our sessions. I have genuine curiosity to learn about others’ experiences, and a desire to co-create with my clients what our sessions will look and feel like. I enjoy working with both young adults and adults who are struggling to find their identity, those who have experienced trauma or attachment disruptions, and autistic clients- particularly those with PDA traits.

I incorporate a psychodynamic lens, systems theories, and third-wave cognitive approaches—facilitating, for example, a mindful awareness of thoughts, emotions, and sensations while remaining curious about how past experiences may contribute to current functioning.
My specialties include adult and adolescent anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, relational and couples’ concerns, grief, family conflict, and co-occurring disorders. I strive to help clients meet their goals while reconnecting to their strengths, values, and innate resilience. As a therapist, I prioritize facilitating a space where clients feel seen and accepted. I am passionate about envisioning and co-creating a psychotherapy accessible to all individuals and communities, particularly those who have historically been excluded from mental health theories and practices (e.g., LGBTQIA+; BIPOC communities).

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
