I have an eclectic approach utilizing concepts from CBT, ACT, DBT, positive psychology, Adlerian and psychoanalytic theories.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor for the State of Minnesota with over 10 years of experience. I believe each individual deserves to have a positive therapy experience; a place where you can be seen and heard without judgement. My goal is to provide a safe space for you to explore the difficulties that are creating barriers in your growth and movement forward. I do not believe in bandaids, but in finding the core of where the psychological injury first occurred so lasting healing can happen. You are worthy of love and belonging in this world and I would love to help get you there.

My primary mode of helping entails utilizing a psychoanalytic and relational framework.
Same sh#t different day? You want to feel better and your life to be better. I want that for you, too. Sometimes we know exactly what is happening and why things are as they are. Other times, it may seem more mysterious, or outside of our awareness. Understanding yourself will help to put you in the driver's seat of your own life so you can move in the direction you'd like to be going. It is both courageous and intensely rewarding to peer deeply, inquisitively at one's own self. This is what you require to grow, move forward and thrive in your life. I can help you to gain self-compassion, understanding, growth and acceptance.

A primary aim of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy is to help you come to know aspects of your mind that were previously unknown, so you can become a better, more whole version of yourself and live your life more fully and freely.
I believe the problems we experience in living are woven into the fabric of our lives and rooted in enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. These problems develop in relationship to others over the course of our lives. And it is in relationship—a relationship in which the attentive presence of another is truly and deeply felt—that these problems can be healed. In an atmosphere of curiosity and acceptance, we will work together to deepen your awareness and understanding of your needs, desires, and patterns of relating so you may experience greater freedom and fulfillment in your life.

Let me help you on your path to healing. We often repeat the same patterns without knowing why or understanding how to break free of these unhealthy cycles. By working together with my clients, we can begin to recognize these patterns and get to the underlying root of where and how they might have developed. This process helps to give my clients better clarity and insight of their own emotional experience, inner world, and behaviors.

I provide a safe and secure environment where you can feel safe to share deeply personal thoughts and feelings. My psychodynamic process requires both courage and motivation to change. You will move from where you are to where you want to be. Initial concerns may be about self esteem, work or relationships but effective psychodynamic process identifies hidden patterns and themes that cloud the present and hinder the future. Patients describe the process as "empowering" and "life changing", leaving them with increased energy, confidence and creativity for their lives.

We all have times when we run out of ideas about how to deal with problems in our lives. It can help to involve a new set of eyes and ears to see things from a different angle. We work to gain new skills and insights, and tap into our forgotten strengths, to create independence and lasting positive change. We look at the rigid and unhelpful patterns we have, and work together to form new ways of thinking and doing. While this process unfolds you are free to be your authentic self, without feeling judgment, powerlessness, or shame, in a safe and trusting atmosphere.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
