My counseling philosophy seeks to find the root of issues, rather than only focusing on managing surface-level symptoms. I incorporate positive psychology, Attachment theory, Family Systems, and Jungian analysis- including a focus on Personality Types, as identified by the Myers-Briggs (MBTI). I believe change occurs in therapy when the client is able to identify the things that are holding them back or distracting them from finding fulfillment in developing their true self. My work as a therapist is to partner with you on your journey toward wholeness as a safe, consistent, trustworthy listener and helper.

Clients I work with face a variety of challenges in their mental or behavioral health. Their symptoms are depression or anxiety based, sometimes experienced together, as the two dynamics can work hand in hand. In having a comfortable space to examine neglected or avoided areas, one can gain fresh perspective to move forward. A counselor can help to add context through psychoeducation or frameworks to work through said issues. Whether it’s challenges in relationships, managing emotions, trauma, or behaviors that no longer serve us, we can begin to look at it in a safe manner, try some new things, and attempt to get some new results.

Psychodynamic; the significant effect our families of origin exert in our lives.
My name is Jesse Rappaport. I have an easy going style, and know that getting to know a new therapist can take some time, I try to make that easier by creating a relaxed atmosphere. One approach I use is EMDR; for treating traumatic experiences. Using EMDR for over twenty years in private practice, I am still awed by the deep transformation, and profound relief that this approach can bring. It is a privilege to witness clients unburdened of trauma becoming able to access their own internal resources, strength and healing. It is as if one's future self somehow becomes available in the present. I most often work with adults 18 +.

I most commonly draw from psychodynamic and somatic therapies, including Brainspotting and IFS, as well as relational and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Accepting new clients for December start. It takes courage to trust another person with your story and face yourself honestly. Maybe you are feeling unsatisfied in your relationships. Perhaps you are feeling flooded with past traumas. Or maybe you have difficulty setting boundaries or controlling your worry. Therapy can be a way to connect with our true selves so that we can show up authentically in the world and in relationships.

People come to therapy for many reasons. In the first few sessions, I want to get to know you--what you are struggling with, your hopes and fears for the future, what seems to be getting in the way, what strengths and assets you bring. Together, we arrive at a plan, identifying your goals, sources of distress, and how best to work toward symptom relief and greater satisfaction with life and relationships. My approach integrates several treatment modalities, including psychoanalytic/ psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based therapies, life-span developmental approaches, attachment theory, family and couples therapy.

We therefore integrate psychodynamic work within and alongside ERP, to foster deeper and more lasting change than ERP alone can offer.
We specialize in Rumination-Focused ERP for OCD and anxiety disorders. My approach is inspired from psychodynamic therapy, family systems, gestalt, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Helping you heal and reach your full potential is both a blessing and a privilege. Offering you a healing process filled with compassion, authenticity, warmth, and a non judgmental attitude is my priority. My offering: A healing process that helps you to discover and understand how unresolved painful experiences from the past keep impacting your present thoughts, needs, feelings and behaviors. Developing skills to become aware of these, will allow you to have a more loving relationship with ALL the parts of yourself. As a result, more meaningful relationships and deeper connections with others will follow.

I will draw on my knowledge of psychodynamic and attachment theory, narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems and trauma sensitive approaches.
Life presents inevitable challenges. Problems are problems. People are not problems. I will work alongside you to be curious and draw out your innate knowing and expertise. You share in my belief in the power of metaphor and meaning-making as a healing medium. This may include creative processes with art materials or it can be through "talk therapy" as well. We will work as collaborators to achieve greater self-awareness that allows you to move forward with confidence, less fear, self judgement and criticism.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
