The approaches I use are psychoanalytical and psychodynamic which include working with individual's dreams and life synchronicities.
"Everyone has a destiny, however, various experiences, perceptions and life events often send us in another direction. Many people become stuck or have difficulty throwing off old thoughts and behaviors. The Psyche brings various symptoms, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders to move us forward. Working through these symptoms leads to a positive outlook on of life. My goal is to help individuals work through the symptoms and build on the strengths and potential within a person. Discovering these gifts can help alleviate negative symptoms and enable you to move into the future with a new awareness and zest for life.

I am a seasoned psychotherapist dedicated to assisting folks on their healing journey. As the picture demonstrates, I am casual, approachable, and delighted in walking with others on their journey to health. Educated as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Nurse, and Chemical Dependency Counselor, I practice under the License of an MFT. I also supervise several post-graduate Masters Level Therapists, most of whom are in their second careers, meaning they have life experiences under their belt and a newer education. Check out the website for more information about how we can serve you.

I focus on building a strong foundational relationship with clients, collaboratively developing self-awareness, mood-stabilizing skills and communication tools that allow for the safe reprocessing of difficult experiences and emotions. I work with people who have experienced a range of challenges, from difficulties with life adjustments to complicated trauma and loss. It is important to me that clients understand that difficult and traumatic experiences can arise from a seemingly “normal” childhood or life event. Therapeutic support and guidance for any destabilizing event or emotion is a valuable resource.

I had no idea what to expect the first time I went to therapy. I was 19 years old and had suffered alone for some time before developing the courage to reach out for professional help. What surprised me the most from that first therapy hour was how validated I felt by my counselor and how much confidence I left with that I would be able to change in the ways I wanted. This therapy experience greatly impacted my personal life (as well as my professional life as you can clearly tell).

At some point in life, nearly all of us feel something is out of balance. This can cause significant distress and be emotionally painful. In an atmosphere of acceptance and trust, we'll explore where it hurts, what is out of balance, and the root causes of emotional distress such as anxiety, depression, grief, and suffering. We’ll work together to address your symptoms, gain deeper awareness and understanding about yourself, and find greater meaning in your life. Just as our physical body has an innate propensity towards growth and healing, I believe we have an innate potential towards emotional growth and healing within us as well.

I support those who feel lost or off, coming to terms with their experiences growing up, adjusting to college, engaging in disordered eating, and/or finding themselves consumed by negative and/or anxious thoughts. You might be self critical, feeling insecure and cannot stop the negative cycle of thinking and behaving. In therapy you will learn more about what is getting in your way, what resources you have and new skills to navigate your journey. Together, we will learn about your experiences, the systems around you and help you move forward with practical and cutting edge tools.

I work collaboratively with my clients to define and explore the things they want to change. Most of my clients come to therapy because something in their lives isn't working anymore. They want to let go of old habits and deepen their sense of well-being. I help my clients build skills that create the conditions for growth. These skills, practiced over time, allow my clients to connect more deeply with themselves and others, and move more purposefully into the lives they choose. My goal is to facilitate my clients' movement beyond symptom relief to real and lasting change.

We do this together within the context of a safe, therapeutic relationship where you can work though difficult feelings and experiences and practice new skills. I have been trained in a variety of approaches and draw upon them based on your specific needs and what I think may be most effective. I welcome ongoing feedback to make sure that our work together remains focused and satisfying.

I typically integrate several treatment modalities including: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and an integrated health approach including, but not limited to, mindfulness based therapies.
Whether you are entering therapy with a clear vision of what you are looking for or are more uncertain of your goals, I will work with you to come up with strategies for growth and the development of optimal emotional health and functioning. I believe that healing occurs through the process of building a trusting therapeutic relationship. By creating a safe and confidential environment I will help you to better understand patterns (which are often outside of your awareness) that lead to emotional distress. Recognition of these patterns empowers you to make choices that can lead to life long change.

I utilize principles of psychodynamic therapy and harm reduction, and can incorporate creative expression into the healing process when helpful.
Being a person can be hard! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship or substance use issues, or any of the difficult feelings that come with being human, I want to help! When you learn to trust your own intuition, identify your needs, and define your boundaries, you are better able to advocate for yourself and create the life you want. I focus on helping each individual to make deep connections, uncover your inner strength and wisdom, and cultivate a meaningful, fulfilling life. At times, you may just need a little extra support wherever you're at, and I'll meet you there!

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
