We utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a powerful approach proven to help people develop healthy coping skills and build healthier relationships.
Ever feel like your emotions are running the show? Maybe you struggle with intense anger, overwhelming sadness, or crippling anxiety. Perhaps past experiences from your childhood are influencing how you show up in your relationships with friends, family, and partners. You've been in therapy before, and while it sometimes feels helpful to talk to someone, you still feel like life is a constant battle. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone! Many people experience emotional dysregulation and don't find the relief they are looking for in traditional therapy alone. The good news is, there IS hope, and there are more options!

Aurora offers counseling services to address issues related to mood and anxiety management, trauma, behavioral struggles, family transitions, and personal development.
Aurora recognizes the important roles that relationships, experiences, and beliefs play in our daily lives. Our family and childhood influence our personal development; however, they are not the only determinants of who we become. We are not static beings but live in a state of constant flux, continuing to grow and having the capacity to choose change. Sometimes, changes may feel unwanted, scary or overwhelming. We may struggle in adjusting to them, or feel stuck in old patterns of responding that no longer work for us. Aurora adopts a client-centered approach and values all aspects of a person's physical, mental, and social world.

We provide a comprehensive range of behavioral health services within one group practice to meet you right where you are.
We believe emotional wellness matters (a lot), and that everyone has the right to make it a priority. Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple. So many questions can get in the way. Maybe you’ve even asked them yourself: Is this normal? Can talking to someone really help me? What is therapy all about, anyway? What would people say if they knew I was going? How do I find the right therapist? Will I be comfortable there? When will I find the time? Will my insurance pay for this? If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. And we can help. I welcome the unfiltered essence of You. I enjoy working with couples, polycules, and families. As an immigrant, I am passionate about issues regarding ambiguous loss and intergenerational trauma. I practice through a non-pathologizing lens that respects the social and environmental context of your experience. Using Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, and Attachment theories, I work collaboratively with your past and explore how it informs your present. Together, we can take inventory of ideologies you want to keep, and shed those that were passed down to you without your consent.

I believe all clients hold the key to their own success and can be guided to that end in a safe, trusting, honest environment. Building relationship and skills for growth, understanding and healing are among my goals in therapy. My personal journey through adoption, trauma, abuse, raising a child with mental health concerns, spiritual enlightenment, natural mental health, divorce, and remarriage have become the gifts I share though therapy. Behavioral Issues Therapists
What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioral issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behavior issues?
Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
