I borrow from Motivational Interviewing, Somatic-Experiential, ACT, and IFS.
Finding the optimal therapeutic fit is a bit like going on a blind date... you hope for the best and prepare for the worst. People who think I'm a fit are often high-achieving individuals with an acute awareness of the issue, feel they have tried "everything" to fix it, and are giving therapy “one last chance.” I successfully get clients “unstuck” by challenging them in unconventional, collaborative ways. I intentionally push people 20% past where they are comfortable (because that’s where the growth happens!) and practice pivoting to ensure you have the skills to navigate, manage, and address the discomfort long-term.

I use aspects of Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing.
There are many stressors and situations in life that may cause disconnect from our selves and/or our partners. This may lead to feelings of irritability, sadness, stuck-ness, and overall less fulfillment. In my approach, I aim to reestablish or strengthen the connection one has with themself and others. I want to understand you and why you show up the way you do so we can identify areas of change that can lead to more satisfaction. I aim to challenge you, while remaining compassionate knowing that change is hard. In our work together, we will increase coping and interpersonal skills to promote a regulated and value-driven life.

I'm a SEP providing Somatic Experiencing, Somatic Touch/Table Work and Sand Tray to adolescents and adults.
The most common feedback I get from clients is that they can tell that I love what I do. They are so right! I believe it is a strength, not a deficit, to reach out to someone for help and support. Whether it's acute trauma, behavioral issues, or adjustment to difficult life circumstances, being heard and supported in a therapeutic setting can make a world of difference. My approach with clients is to meet them where they are, determine where they want to be, and to be an empathic witness for them in their healing journey.

Having a space where you can feel comfortable sharing about what life has asked of you and what it is offering you can be powerful. Feeling seen, heard, and understood seems rare these days. Sitting alongside client’s as they navigate seasons of their lives, reflect on past versions of themselves, live within this season and bridge to their future is a blessing.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
