As a therapist, I believe in meeting people where they are at and that you, the individual, are the expert on your life. I tailor my practice to what your individual goals and needs are by considering all parts of who you are, including your strengths, and not only the struggles you face. Throughout my work, I hope to foster a space in which we can communicate openly about what is working and what may not. I look forward to collaborating together and getting to know you better, as this journey will be a team effort between the two of us.

Whatever experiences life has brought our way, we continue towards wholeness and healing. Our inner drive is towards wholeness. Within a trusting therapeutic relationship we can nurture the part of us that allows us to heal, make better decisions and achieve the goals we desire. I really believe in the power that we all have to heal, make sense of our lives, and move towards the kind of life we would like.

My name is Natalie Ryan, and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LISCW). I continue to be amazed by the strength and resilience individuals show when they come to therapy. Many individuals I meet are going through the hardest transitions of their lives and I am honored to be a part of their journey. I believe everyone deserves a safe space to explore their thoughts, feelings, frustrations, and curiosities. I tell everyone when we first meet that I have no hidden agenda; together we will develop a treatment plan that is right for you and assess this regularly to ensure your needs are met.

When you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed it can be difficult to find the courage to seek therapeutic support. My hope is that through our sessions you will be able to find peace in the chaos of life. I believe our struggles teach us to center our attention around a part of us that needs to grow. I can help you create this change and manage the feelings that come with this rewarding work.

Are you unhappy with the current version of yourself? Or dealing with unrelenting pressure and feel like you’re drowning & can’t keep up with life’s demands? Or maybe you are trapped by your thoughts and finding it hard to get out of your own head. I was right there where you are. I had built a “successful” and “normal” life so I was happy, right? Everything looked good on the outside, but internally, I was a mess. The chronic pain, spacey-ness, irritability, and unrelenting pressure never seemed to stop. I was unhappy and lost in this version of myself, it finally became too much.

Nicole is a firm believer that trauma and addiction go hand and hand. "It too effects our bodies. A lot of times clients are unaware of that early in their recovery, and they have been using substances to cope for years. I am driven to teach my clients about the mind body connection by the teaching and exploring of somatics, negative thoughts, unconventional coping skills, i.e., such as breathworks, and by exploring safety and its meaning within themselves. Seeing other people's light shine again and finding themselves is the fuel to why I do this healing work."

Our world is complex and navigating it can feel overwhelming. The only constant is change and sometimes it can be hard to know what’s next. Is it any surprise that we sometimes get stuck? I work with couples, individuals, and families and help them work through difficult times by creating new paths.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
