I work with adult and adolescent clients who are experiencing difficulty in managing anxiety, anger, trauma, depression and relationship-based concerns. I invite you to consider the idea that you are the author and director of your thoughts and emotional responses. Put differently, you have within you the power to rewrite the "script" on how you see yourself and the role that you play in your life, regardless of what you may have experienced in your past. In our shared journey, I hope to help you feel more empowered as an active agent of change in responding to suffering, depression, anxiety and trauma.

I have experience with anxiety, depression, couple/family/relationship issues, PTSD, substance use, personality disorders, minority stress, spiritual/religious/existential issues, anger management, and co-parenting.
Many come to therapy knowing only that they are struggling to get things done, their relationships have become a source of stress rather than comfort, or they need help processing trauma, loss, or other painful experiences impacting their daily lives. Whatever your circumstances, I strive to help each person or family I work with achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, while also alleviating symptoms. I use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I also value and work with each person's nervous system in the healing process.

I enjoy working with clients who are willing to broaden their perspective, to try new ways of doing things, and are willing to build on their own authenticity. I typically work with folks living with depression, anxiety, trauma and stressor related disorders, challenges adjusting to new life circumstances, and relationship issues. My favorite aspect of therapy is being able to offer individuals hope and a fresh perspective in areas of their lives where they have lost sight of their own strength, and do so through the power of the therapeutic relationship.

Some days you may not want to feel so weighted; your head to not race; your intimate partner to not be that passing ship; or so moved by compulsion. You may just need some safe space to figure it all out. This can be your sorting place. My goal is to help you better identify and understand your symptoms and improve overall coping. You are an individual, not a cookie cutter, so your treatment approach will be unique to your needs, and each person's journey is individual. Through goal setting, we can help you to develop decisions congruent with the life you want. I use CBT, ACT, mindfulness, & Gottman Method (completed Level 1 & 2).

I am a Christian therapist, and see mental health from a holistic framework that incorporates both emotional and spiritual wellbeing. I spent years as the mental health supervisor for Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, and now I work with adults and adolescents who are grieving, healing from trauma and PTSD, going through role transitions, and trying to understand how they can find fulfillment through value-based living. I have a deep understanding of how addiction and mental health correlate, and I also work with those recovering from spiritual trauma or living with anxiety.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
