At Changing Pathways, I work with people of all ages. I have a special interest working with “littles.” I work with littles as young as two. I have a passion working with children ages two to seven; focusing on non-directive play therapy to promote change. I understand that change is a developmental and lifetime process. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults; working through symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and loss. I have completed level 1 of Theraplay training, an attachment based modality. I believe it is important to explore a holistic viewpoint, including family, environment, and attachment.

Are you feeling hurt and confused by a particular relationship? Are you in the middle of a major life change or loss? Or maybe you're feeling out of sorts, not your "usual" self, and you're wondering why. I believe these "stuck spots" are opportunities to tune in differently and truly listen to your life. When you've circled and spiraled in your own head, searching for clarity, and nothing seems to change, it's okay to ask for help.

I prefer to use my cognitive behavior therapy and attachment-based techniques in therapy most of the time.
Hello, I'm Rebecca Zabinski, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota. I am originally from New Mexico and met my husband in the United States Air Force. I am a woman veteran and have grown to love Minnesota and everything it has to offer. My approach to therapy is meeting people where they are at and coming up with some goals together so that there is a common focus between us. I have 3 boys and love animals. If I am not working, I am doing something outside with my kids, in the garden or with my dogs.

I utilize an attachment-based lens with both individual and couple clients.
You are constantly putting others first, you feel alone & like you're never good enough. It's hard for you to figure out what your own feelings and needs are & asking for help or setting boundaries feels nearly impossible. Early adulthood is full of life transitions, uncertainty, new experiences, big decisions, and figuring out who we are. It's overwhelming! I have a niche for working with individuals in this stage of life, especially those also dealing with things like anxiety, depression, or complex family systems on top of it all. I work with couples too, understanding relationships impact mental health and vice versa.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
