I have been providing therapy services for 20+ years in many settings including: inpatient hospital units, outpatient hospital clinics, emergency departments and outpatient mental health clinics. I enjoy working with adults, children (ages 10+), pre-teens, teens and their families. I have extensive experience addressing symptoms of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, low self-esteem/ self-concept, social/ emotional difficulties, co-occurring mental health diagnoses, grief and loss, parenting, emotional difficulties related to family of origin, and issues related to adoption and kinship care for all members of adoptive and kinship families, particularly attachment related difficulties.

Kara received her Master of Social Work Degree from St. Cloud State University in 2015. She recently was working or PrairieCare as an inpatient social worker, co-located therapist at a pediatric clinic and supervisor through PrairieCare for the past 5 years. She worked with pediatricians and psychiatrist to create a collaborative approach for patients as well as finding resources that were best for the family as well as specializing in working with children and adolescents with ADHD, Anxiety, OCD, Depression, and Anger.

Clients I work with are often not very willing to open up about themselves and are at times uninterested in therapy. Some would like to change but do not want to have to talk with someone to accomplish change, others have tried before and never been able to form a good relationship with a therapist. My clients often have a high resting level of anger and likely have had issues in life with anger or are described as difficult by others.

We all encounter hardships and struggles at various times in our lives. I deliver assessment and therapy services to children, adults, and families to identify possible mental health concerns and promote understanding and healing across the lifespan. I have the belief that all doors open and close for a reason and that if we desire to be where the creator wants us, he will put us exactly where we need to be and I believe that I'm supposed to be in a place where I help others realize this. Kayla completed her Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary. Kayla is currently pursuing licensure in the State of Minnesota as a marriage and family therapist. Kayla believes in being a non-judgmental presence and utilizes an empathetic approach to the healing process. She is passionate about listening to clients' stories to gain a big-picture perspective as a starting point to help clients process, heal, and overcome life's circumstances and challenges.

Learning how to see beyond these things to the full and complete person you are can be both difficult and healing.
